path results time-line?

Hi...I'm scheduled for a TAH/LSO due to complex hyperplasia plus several other reasons. My question is if they do find endometrial cancer (or any other for that matter) do they have path check it right away? How long does it take to get results?

I'm one of those who feel way better knowing what I'm facing.

Love to all...

Tess

I was dx with endometrial cancer last July. It was discovered during a d and c to remove what the gyn thought was a polyp. The path for the d and c came back within 2 days and the surgical path came back one week after surgery.
what has led you to feel that you may face a cancer dx?
My tumor was a stage 1a.

hysteroscopy

Hi...when I had my last endometrial biopsy, then a hysteroscopy, the path reports said benign, but with "unusual characteristics." My gyn sent my samples directly to a gynecological pathologist who said benign, but they didn't like the unusual characteristics and found them concerning. My gyn has said sometimes, even with biopsies, you don't see the cancer until you get inside there with the hysterectomy.

So, I'm just trying to prepare for any eventualities.

Thank you for responding!

Love...

Hi Tess NW

I had an ultrasound with a gyn and he felt i was premenopausal and might have a polyp (sp) . he also saw what he thought to be some hyperplasisa going on . To be on the safe side to to ease my ever growing fears he suggested a hysteroscopy and D&C just to be on the safe side.
Had the D&C on Feb 7th and he called on the 11th to say the path results came back with a cancer dx. He felt i should see a specialist and referred to a wonderful gyn/ onc in Eugene. Or.

I would HIGHLY recommend this Dr and the facilities. She did surgery on Feb 18 and we had the preliminary path back before i travelled home 4 days later.

My feeling is ..that a hysteroscopy is just a look-see..a D&C is a more advanced way to gauge tissue type, good cells, bad cells, etc. I am personally thankful my gyn went the extra mile to try and assure me things were normal for a 48 yr.old premenopausal woman !!! We were both very much surprised.............. It all happened so fast I didn't have much time to really fret about stuff.. if it was cancer i wanted it out.........and was happy to deal with the recommendations of my surgeon .

Your dr , is a gyn/onc ?? and what about a 2nd opinion? Please write down any questions you may have pre-op I brought a dear friend to take notes for me because i was not hearing stuff 100%.
Don't stop until you have ALL of your ?'s answered to your satifaction.

Again ..I was soo pleased with my doc and experience in Eugene and would be happy to speak with you via PM or e-mail

Take care..KK
