Pain medication

I am 7 days post-op TAH/BSO...how long do people keep taking pain meds? I've been on Tylenol/Motrin since Thursday and haven't had anything since 11am...feeling ok..is this normal? Don't want to stop too soon or take too long? Any wisdom?

Pain medication

((((Sharonrie)))))))),

If you are not having pain then don't take pain pills. If you are

having pain take pain pills. You don't have to take pain pills if you

don't need them hon.

I quit after day 5.

Everybody is different, so stop when you don't need them.

Best wishes,

Pamcat

me too

I had surgery the 15th and I am with you I came home wed by 10:30. I took a vicodin and slept since that dose I stuck to motrin only. I take it as I need it has been up to 10 hrs without. I figure it will eventually be needed less and less! I am excited.... Good Luck

Pain medication

Good for you! I guess I'll take something now at bedtime just so I don't wake up in pain...am up to sleeping six hours at a time now! Sounds like your recovery is coming along great too! This is the dangerous time now though when you get to doing too much cause you feel so much better...our basement flooded today because of rain...didn't bail with my husband and kids but did push some water and hope I don't pay tomorrow! Good luck with your recovery! Thanks for the response! Sharon

pain meds

My surgery was on the 7th of July so I am a week ahead of you, but I also quit taking the pain pills about 5 days post op. They actually kept me awake. I take Tylenol PM at night and just some motrin during the day when I need it. I am feeling better every day. Tomorrow is my 2 weeks post op appt. and I am anxious to see what the doctor says about the next phase of recovery. Keep on feeling better!

Still taking mine occasionally at 5 weeks

Hi,

I had total pelvic repair + TAH. Stopped taking my oxycodone at approx. 3 weeks post op because I thought I was constipated from them. I felt miserable when I stopped, because with the pelvic repair, it seems the gastrointestinal problems worsened without the pain meds. At hyster systers' urging, I went back on them & my life improved considerably.

Finally stopped them a few days ago (just after 5 weeks), but take them occasionally (could use something right now).

My guess is that everyone is different, surgeries are different, & it's okay to take them when you need them.

Hope this helps!

Nancy

Thanks for responding!

Thanks for the words os wisdom! I am jealous of that 2 week post op visit! I don't go back for 6 weeks...starting to smart a little probably from pushing water toward the sanitary drain in my basement this evening! Going to bed now with 3 Motrin on board just in case! Maybe can go all day tomorrow with nothing! You're right, everyone is different...so much depends on the type of surgery too...good night all! Thanks again! Sharon
