Cancer Paranoia

Hi Sisters,
This is my first time posting. Hope someone has some suggestions for me. I had my hyst in 1982 but I had one ovary left inside. In 19970 I had cancer in my right kidney. The tumor was in my kidney and I was not diagnois until after the removal of my kidney. I was blessed with no chemo or radiation. I still afraid that the cancer can come back because each year I have to have a CT scan. In Sept. 2000 the CT scan showed some type of mass in my abdomen. I was sent to Jefferson hospital in Phila., to an OB GYN Oncologist. They found that I had part of my left ovary inside. They removed the ovary and the "grapefruit size" mass. It was benign. Hot flashes and flushed kicked in big time. I went from one hormone to the next. Premarin, estrotest, patches, creams, etc. I'm so afraid of the big "C" that I don't take anything. I have to be careful of natural hormones because I only have one kidney to filter out stuff that I take. Any suggestions for living a comfortable life without bursting into flames? Thanks for letting let off some stress.

Cancer Paranoia

Hi Lady T. I can certainly relate to the hot flash scene. I don't want to take any hrt also. I'm currently taking a soy supplement that doesn't seem to help. My co-worker takes Flash Fighters that is working well for her. It contains supplements including soy, black kohosh, and something else. She also takes Evening Primrose Oil and swears by both. Check with your doc before taking. Also, check the Hormone Jungle- No Hormone message board Forum. I will probably start taking the above mentioned if my gyn/onc approves. Best wishes and happy for the benign path report!!

Cancer Paranoia

It's kind of funny. My doctors said I could take any hormones I wanted. While I'd rather opt for something natural to see if it worked, my clinical nutrionist said that I should avoid black cohosh during chemo. I forgot to ask why.

I hate that new Estroven commercial where the woman is covered is sweat and looking like a crazy person. I suspect men see that commercial and just go, "Eeeeee! I need a 19-year-old!"

;-)

I do find that I have more temperature control issues after eating certain foods, and that exercise reduces the flashiness considerably.

Hi

I have one kidney only--my second one went in 1980 to a massive stone. I am not taking any hormones or supplements at this time--you hear soy isn't good, black cohosh isn't good--I'm not sure what is so I avoid everything. I live in a state of constant hot flashes at times and just stay cool with a/c I'd ask before taking anything because of the kidney situation but your doctor may be able to find something you'll be comfortable with.
