Confusion about ERT and recurrence

The whole issue of ERT use after an endometrial or uterine cancer is so confusing. The onc/gyn that did my surgery said that with a stage 1a dx there is no reason for me not to take ert, but then my gyn said no.....that she feels it would put me at a low risk for recurrence...and even though it was low it would be less risky to go the no ERT route for at least two years..
I have read recent studies that say that there is a lower rate of recurrence if ERT is used.....I read this article on the ob/gyn association web site. It was an AGOG News release. Maybe I am mis-reading this.
Does anyone have any info on this subject? I have an appt in Aug. I printed the news release and will show it to my doc.

Read the Actual Study

I know the study you are talking about. Since my gyn-onc told me no HRT, I was surprised when I read the news reports about the study you saw. IFor the most part, I am not one for believing reports of studies without looking at the actual study to see how it was designed, controlled, etc. and to see if they are accurately reporting the results.

When I read that particular study, I was glad I did not rely on the news reports; it was one of the most poorly designed and controlled studies I had ever seen. I had so many concerns about the conclusions reached, that I consider it worthless research. Definitely do read the actual study and draw your own conclusions. I frankly found it irresponsible the way some studies are reported after reading this particular study.

My gyn-onc does not change his position on things lightly. When I reported the results of one "study" to him, he said, yes and in six months they'll be a study saying chocolate syrup is good for cancer." I guess he's been around long enough to know that there is good research and bad research! It's important to know the difference.

Please let me know what you think after you've had an opportunity to review the actual study.

Good luck!
