10 more pre-op tips for post-op

Hi ladies:

Although I have already done a "tip" post there are a few more things I have thought of that may be of some use to some of you LIW's, then again maybe not. But anything to help with recovery.

The first one I think is going to be my trademark. Please don't be as scatter brained as we were.

1. Think about your release time from the castle and being able to get your prescription for your pain meds to the pharmacy before it closes.

2. Most pain meds need to be taken with food, I had pudding cups and vanilla/sherbet icecream cups on hand so it would be easy during the night and not have to wake up DH. Also leave a light on somewhere so you don't bump you leg on the table like I did, but I only did this once!

3. If you follow number 2 then you might also want to get some plastic spoons. I wish I had done this so DH wouldn't have to wash spoons constantly.

4. Write down your med doses, I was a little fuzzy the first couple of days and I did have to refer to this.

5. Don't throw out your pads, there will be a discharge and so far mine is still with me after 12 days and I have read some go for quite a while.

6. Ask your Dr. about using gas x and get some, you will need it.

7. I had pretty good luck eating a small bowl of grape nuts cereal every morning for the first week and didn't have any problems with BM's.

8. Ask for help, DH explained to me 2 days post-op that he can't read my mind and although he didn't have any problems doing what ever I needed, I was going to have to let him know.

9. Insominia can happen and I started to stress about it at first but now I have decided that it is my job to sleep whenever I want to.

10. My attitude was horrible even up to a couple of days ago, I felt that I should be feeling better then I was. Again I finally decided it is my job to rest, drink gallons of water, and walk around the house and yard every couple of hours. That's it, nothing else and when I changed my attitude and relaxed about this I started to feel better, about me.

Today I feel that I am on the road to a great recovery and YES I would do the surgery again, I know it is only going to get better.

Take care
Jodi
