problems w/ digestion after hyst?

I am looking for advice about a rather embarassing topic: I am 8 months recovering from my hysterectomy. Have had a few problems along the way and I am wondering if I have yet another that I really NEED to see a doctor about. I have been experiencing bowel movements that aren't what they were before the hyst. They are almost like diaherrea, except that they only occur 1 time a day (I only have one movement a day usually anyway) and I also almost always get a stomach ache after a normal size meal just for a few minutes then it goes away.
I am on birth control pills for hrt and also 1 gm of Estrace a week and I am wondering if maybe they are what is causing the difference. Any feedback on whether hrt might cause digestive problems and if so should I ask my doc to try switching me yet again? I don't want to change as we tried several before we found something that seemed to match my hormonal needs.....

problems w/ digestion after hyst?

My intestinal problems have definetly gotten much worse since the hysterectomy. I use my hrt in a cream form so I don't think that has anything to do with it. You might want to consult with a gastrologist. A gastrologist specializes in stomach disorders. He/she may want to run some tests based on your symptoms. That's where I would start anyways.

Acidophilus over the counter helped a lot with my stomach/digestive problems. Check with dr first but the enormous amount of antibiotics they pumped into me plus shortening my bowel was giving me problems. It is much better now & I noticed it within 24 hrs of taking it. It puts the good bacteria back into our systems after our antibiotics takes it out.

Good Luck,

problems w/ digestion after hyst?

I've always had problems with my digestive system, caused by IBS. However, like Kim, since my Hyst, the problems have increased dramatically. In my case, I have to deal with the constipation/diarrhea cycle, bowel spasms that can be very painful, extreme bloating and a new tendency to burp

Please, do mention these problems to your doctor. And no need to be embarrassed: they've heard it all, and then some. Most of the time, relief is available, though not always (I don't take any meds for my problems, but do watch what and how much I eat... that helps.... most of the time).

Sending lots of healing s your way. Please let us know how you're doing.
