squatting ok?

me again...... 17 days post op.
feeling pretty good actually -

I've noticed that bending from the waist is a no-no - it just doesn't feel good - puts too much pressure on my belly......
today, without thinking about it, when I was putting on my shoes I squatted down to buckle them up (for the past 2 weeks, I've been sitting down and brining 1 foot up across my knee.... if you can picture that.....

anyway, the squat didn't hurt, either going down or getting up (once I realized what I had done -ie when I was "down" I grabbed on to the wall in case I lost my balance) but actually it was quite comfortable.

given that it didn't hurt anything, I think this could be a new technique for managing a lot of stuff- my legs are really quite strong.
can anybody tell me if there is a reason I haven't thought of for NOT squatting? - as long as it is for short bobs and doesn't hurt?
thanks!
Cheryl

squatting ok?

I have also been squating and it seems to work well for me. My legs are stronger then my stomach muscles which have been taking a lot of abuse lately, as I'm sure we all know about. I asked my nurse practitioner about it and she said it was fine as long as I was comfortable and steady with it. It feels good to be doing things for myself and more normally now.

squatting ok?

I've done some squatting too. Like you, I have pretty strong legs, so if I do a true squat (ie. my back remains straight, no bending at the waist), I feel comfortable. So as not to take undue risks, though, I only do it if there is something nearby for me to grab onto if I lose my balance even a bit.

Cheers,
Julyop

squatting ok?

I have used squatting to.. On the couple occasions I left the house with the family, I had to use public restrooms and by no means was going to sit on the toilets. So if able I used the handicapped one and held on to the rail and sqautted using my legs for support. I have been doing ok with it as well. Thanks for the insight , you are right I to have much better leg strength and should use the squatting instead of bending.. Thanks fellow sisters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
