Cervical cancer staging

Have been told ive got stage 1a cervical cancer and have to have a TAH on the 6th. Have been browsing through other letters and have seen other ladies with stage 1b have had RH. After having the leep and the biopsy showed the cancer i was just told to have the TAH. Would like to hear from anyone who`s had the same stage as me to see what was offered to you. thanx

Cervical cancer staging

Hi Ab,

Sorry to hear that you are going through this, but it seems like your doc is moving quickly, which is good. Is he/she a gyn or a gyn/onc?

I had stage one adenocarcinoma of the cervix and was offered a radical hysterectomy or a radical trachelectomy. I chose the latter and the lymph nodes they removed were clear. Therefore, my doctor and I agreed that no further treatment was necessary. I am followed with paps and colposcopy every three months, just passed one year cancer-free!

Good luck to you,

To chicklet

It was the doctor who told me what i was having but i have seen a gyn-oncologist. You said you had stage 1a1 adenocarcinoma??? is that right? What is that? Is it the same?

Cervical cancer staging

I don't really know if I hd stage 1 or 2 . The doctors just told me it was 3 cm, and saod tjp only option there is is radical hysterectom, and radiation. I was 4 months married when they found it and 9 months married at 4 cm when they did and emergecy C-section. It has been one stress after another since.

Cervical cancer staging

Hi Jen,

There are two main types of cancer of the cervix, squamous cell carcinoma (about 85% of cervix cancers are this type), and adenocarcinoma (10-15%). The squamous cell type is begins on the cells at the outer lining of the cervix (think of it as the skin of the cervix). Adenocarcinoma begins in the glands that are found in the cervix. Since I don't know which form you have, I don't know whether it's the same or not . About the staging, to be honest, my doctor never said I was IA1, just IA. I did a little research and figured I was IA1. Let me know if you have any other questions .

Cervical cancer staging

I had stage 1a1 squamous cell cervical cancer. My gyn recommended hysterectomy. Since I had had 3 years with these abnormals paps and experienced so much pain through many biopsies and also the LEEP (which I wasn't supposed to feel but did) I didn't even consider going to onc./gyn for second opinion. My tumor was 2cm, was told if it went past 3 cm I would need radical hyst.
I have to say there was no cancer found in my tissues after my hyst. My recovery from my hyst went well, but now I suffer bladder problems both recurrent infections and problems with overactive bladder (take medication for it daily). Also have had recurrent yeast infections and Bacterial vaginosis as well. Not to mention the violent mood swings and other problems caused from hormones or imbalance of. My PCP finally put me on Estratest and my family is much happier with me.
If I were you I would definately get a second opinon from a gyn/onc, maybe even a third.
Good luck and best wishes.
