Bladder suspension with TAH/BSO?

I am having surgery in two days and worried about bladder falling down in the future and having to deal w/prolapse. (I'm 56 now).

Has anyone ever had a suspension at the same time as TAH / BSO?

I just thought of this and feel panicky b/c I haven't talked to Dr. about it and now have one more thing to be anxious about.

Bladder suspension with TAH/BSO?

Hi Lorry,

Are you having bladder problems now? I'm not sure, but I don't think that a bladder suspension would be done until and unless you are already having problems.

If you are, and you haven't talked to your doctor about it yet, please call his office first thing tomorrow morning. To my knowledge, the bladder suspension is not done as part of a "normal" hysterectomy, and would need additional approvals from your insurance company, and would not normally be done by a regular gynecologist. I believe it is normally done by a uro/gyn.

Either way - why don't you call his office tomorrow so that you can discuss your concerns - you may want to postpone your hyst in order to be seen by a uro/gyn for a second opinion.

Please let us know what you find out when you call.

Bladder suspension with TAH/BSO?

Hi Lorry!

I have an appt on Thurs. to discuss the next steps re: TAH/BSO and Bladder Suspension. I have "organ reversal" (my repro organs are backwards) and cervical prolapse. My dr performed a Urodynamics test since I complained of leakage and found that I need a Bladder Suspension even worse than TAH! My gyn is having a Uro specialist do the surgery in conjunction w/TAH/BSO. I have a couple of friends who have had a Bl Susp when they've had a TAH and their gyn has done it. It depends on the dr b/c my mother's wouldn't do it at the same time and now she's paying dearly.

Please call your dr tomorrow. And if he says no than ask for a second opinion.

Hope all goes well!
Mrs. Clean

Bladder suspension with TAH/BSO?

Karen: Thanks for your advice about bladder suspension. I spoke with Dr this a.m. and she said this was not necessary b/c I am not incontinent. She said to do a suspension might cause urine retention and I DON'T need that having already been treated to that via the fibroid enlargement. She said not to worry about prolapse. No one has a crystal ball but she assured me that all would be well.

See you on the other side!

Love,

Lorry
