Unsure of what stage I am

I know this may sound weird, but I don't understand what stage cervical cancer I have. I see people post that they have 1A,1B, etc... My doctors explaination was unclear to me and I thought once I received the pathology report in the mail I would have a better idea.

The report says Adenocarcinoma in situ with microscopic focus of invasion. It also says adenocarcinoma in situ involves 2 of 4 quadrants and extends within less than 1mm of the endocervical margin.

I am having a radical hysterectomy anyway, but I was just curious what stage I was.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Unsure of what stage I am

Hi Lynn....

This may sound funny and even strange to others but I never knew what stage I was either until, I finally asked, when my chemo was finished!!

My oncologist and oncologist/gynocologist both agreed that no matter what the stage, the chemo and treatments were going to be the same, so instead of getting me all crazy, they did not volunteer any information until I actually asked. And truthfully, I did not ask until I was really ready to know.

As it turned out I was stage 3 ovarian cancer but then again my oncologist says there is stage 3 and there is stage3. In my case I was in the best possible senerio stage 3 with very little debulking needed.

You will find out when the time is right..

Keep us informed.

Thank you for your replies. After looking at the attached website, do you think I am a stage 1A?

Adenoma in Situ is actually stage 0. Why are they recommending a radical as opposed to a total? I had the same thing and my oncologist recommended a total. It is less invasive. Mine turned out to be Stage 1A, but even 1A is usually treated with a total. Are you seeing a gyn oncologist? They are the experts with this.

Lynn

I came away from seeing the doctor the same as you. All i knew was that i`d got cervical cancer and need a TAH. I looked it all up and read loads and realised that there are stages. I rang the gyn-oncologist and asked. She told me 1a. Am going to the castle today, op tomorrow. Good luck !
