Unsure of what stage I am

I am seeing a gyn-onc. The reason I am having a radical is because they say it is invasive. I've had two opinions, one from my gyn onc and one from Sloan Kettering and they both said the same thing. I was just confused as to what stage I was b/c no one told me. That's for the reply

I wish you the best of luck Jen and you will be in my thoughts

If it's invasive then it is not in situ. Who did you see at Sloan Kettering? I saw someone there too. I would call the oncologist there and ask them what stage they think you are at. I would try to get some clarity on the staging and what you are facing. They won't know for sure until they do the hysterectomy, but they will have an idea.

I noticed that you were from NJ. My oncologist, Dr. Dottino, works out of Manhattan and I believe Hackensack. He is great.

Unsure of what stage I am

Denise,

I saw Richard Baracat. My gyn onc is based out of Thomas Jefferson University. The path report says adenocarcinoma in situ with microscopic focus of invasion. Boy, I am so confused. I plan to ask my doctor, she is just on vacation this week. My husband and I are going to contact Dr. Baracat tonight.

Thank you for the advice.

Dr. Barakat has a great reputation. You are in good hands. It does sound like they caught it really early. The adenocarcinoma in situ is stage 0. The microscopic invasion sounds like very early stages of cancer. In the early stages of cancer it is referred to as "microinvasive." When they find any early stages of cancer, a radical is usually performed. In my case, they thought that it was adenocarcinoma in situ when I went in, but it turned out to be Stage 1A microinvasive.

By the way, I am fine 20 months past my hysterectomy. I know that it is scary, but if it is early your prognosis is excellent.

Unsure of what stage I am

Denise,

Just another quick question. I saw you wrote that your doctor was Dr. Dottino in NYC. When I lived in NYC I was an oncology nurse for a Dr Bottino, but we never saw cervical cancer cases (this is why I am cluless in this area). Anyway, I just thought this was a coincidence and wondered if you meant Bottino instead. Just thought I'd ask

Unsure of what stage I am

I just had my TAH two weeks ago..for endometrial cancer. If the cancer is confined to the endometrial lining, it is Stage 1A and requires no other treatment. Also, no treatment if the cancer is less that 50% into the vaginal muscle..the wall is about 3 centimeters, so less than 1.5 c..that is considered Stage 1B.. I was .2 c. into the muscle, so I am very lucky..no chemo or radiation. If it is more than 50% into the muscle, but not out of the uterus, it is Stage 1C.. if it is out of the uterus, but still in the pelvis..it is Stage 2, etc... but anything past Stage 1B requires chemo, radiation or both..hope this helps.

Unsure of what stage I am

Great question. My GYN told me less than 2 weeks ago I had cervical caNCER. Since then I have seen an ONC. I guess because of the state of shock, I failed to ask either what stage I was in. My ONC just told me he was going to do a Radical Hysterectomy with possible BSOL. The possible BSOL was because I told him I wanted to keep my ovaries if at all possible. I have since made the decision to go ahead and have them removed. I just don't want to have to go through another surgery to have them removed later. Would it be better to call my GYN or my ONC to find out what stage that I am in?

Call you oncologist for staging. I would also stick with oncologist form now on. They are really the experts.

Unsure of what stage I am

Mine was a stage 0. I only needed a TVH - I have my ovaries and tubes, but no uterus or cervix.

My path just came back yesterday - nothing outside of margins - I'm CLEAR!!!!!
