Just how fast can an ovarian cyst grow?!

So I have an appointment next Thursday to see a specialist to decide what to do with my ovarian cyst..but I am wondering how fast they can grow! The pain is increasing, as it slowly has over the past 4 weeks..but now I am absolutly positive it is somehow putting pressure on my sciatic nerve! ( sorry if I spelled that wrong) When I am upright for a period of time, it gets more and more "pinched", and I have increasing pain down my butt and let,,and have trouble walking..

Is this possible? Physiologically is it possible?

Re: Just how fast can an ovarian cyst grow?!

My question is how did you know you had an ovarian cyst? Is that the only kind of pain you have? My doctor sent my for an ultrasound for a ovarian cyst. I just had a hysterectomy 5 wks ago and they think I have one already. I don't understand either how it can grow that quick.
Let me know what you find out.

It really depends on the nature and type of the cyst and what is the cause of the cyst. In some instances they can grow very quickly.

I had my hyst in June of last year and was told that my left ovary looked fine and so it was left in place. Lesss than one month later I was in serious pain and my DR kept putting me off and giving me tho speil(sp) "you're supposed to be in pain, you just had surgery", but I KNEW something was wrong. I demanded testing and was sent for a CT scan and I had a 6 cm cyst in less than one month, that is slightly smaller than a tennis ball.

We opted to try an injection of Lupron and the DR told me it would go away on it's own, no further testing required! With my continued pain, I demanded once again that he keep check on this cyst since he had an in office US, I had an US about once a week although I was never allowed to view the resultss, I was told that it was gradually getting smaller but it sure didn't feel like it to me. Finally one day he said that he would give me NO MORE pain meds, the cyst was resolving itself and there was nothing else that he could do for me....THAT'S IT!!

So I went for a 2nd opinion and once this DR read my DR's notes he told me the same thing, it will go away. THAT'S IT!

3rd opinion and this DR called my original gyn (unbeknownst to me), I told him that the cyst was getting worse and I could feel it when I drive, physically feel the cyst inside of me. He virtually laughed me out of his office. I later picked up my records from this DR to go for a 4th opinion, out of state!! Where my old gyn couldn't interfere and in his notes it said that my first gyn told him over the phone that I was merely seeking prescription drugs.

4th opinion out of state, sends me straight over to the hospital for an US and Inow have a 18 cm cyst ( the size of a cantelope) and possibly malignant. It needs to come out immediately! I have surgery the following week to have it removed. This Dr said theres absolutely NO DOUCBT that I could feel this thing while I was driving and he doesnt know how I was even able to walk around much less drive. All of this happened within about a 5 month span. SO yes, they an grow very quickly.

Insist to see each and every US report or CTscan or whatever they run on you in person and make yourself notes of the size so that you know for yourself what changes are happening. I'd like to think that all DR's are not like mine were but you can never be too safe when it comes to your health.

Sorry for writing a novel. Good luck and

Just how fast can an ovarian cyst grow?!

I'm really not sure how fast they can grow. I do know that when I was diagnosed with my first cyst back in 1995 it was approximately 6.2cm in size and the doctor told me that it didn't get that way overnight.

In 1997 I had another cyst that was 3.6cm in size at the time of ultrasound. I had surgery about a month later and it measured 4cm when it was removed.

I would assume that as we are all different it probably depends on what is going inside you. I think this is a good question to ask your

I'm sorry that you're feeling more and more pain.
