Recovery from having ovary removed?

I have painful cysts on my right ovary and will probably have it removed soon. I'm hoping some sisters who have gone through this after their hysterectomy could describe their recovery from this operation. I can't imagine anything being worse than the hysterectomy.
I keep telling my husband that if my right side felt like my left side I would be one of the ladies who say this was the best thing they ever did!
I had a TAH June 4th. So the memory of that is still very fresh.

Recovery from having ovary removed?

Dear Michelle,

I am sorry to hear that you have to go through another surgery so soon.

I had an RSO prior to my hyst. It was done laparascopically. I also had endo lasered and an area of adenomyosis that had grown almost all the way through my uterus treated. I thought it was much easier to recover from than my TAH... but it was still surgery and I was very sore for the first week ... and then things were tender for a couple more weeks... some of that may have been from the adenomyosis treatment though

So from my experience it was not as bad as the TAH but still took some time to recover. I think my best advice would be to listen to your body afterwards and follow your doctor's advice on activity level.

I hope that helps.

Recovery from having ovary removed?

Your recovery time will probably depend on how the surgery is done and how much work your doc does once he gets in there. I had a partial ovary removal years before the hyst, it was done thru laproscopically. I did spend the night in the hospital and was off work for about a week. Than I had my left ovary and fallopian tube removed, also laproscopically. This was done as a day surgery, went home that afternoon and was off work for a few days.

For the hyst I also had the TAH and the pain and recovery was way worse than the laproscopic surgeries I had.

Do keep in mind that surgery is surgery. There will still be some recovery time. Regardless of whether the surgery is an open surgery or laproscopic you will still be knocked out and there will be some sort of recovery time. I know for me, with each additional surgery I have had it takes me longer to bounce back.

Good luck!
