New here at the Road....

Hello.

I had my hyster at the end of April. 3 days after my hyster, SAH (and after returning home) I had to return to the hospital because my bowels were blocked and I had to stay 3 more days inpatient with the tube down my nose. This started working by day 3 and I got to return home again.

Now it's nearly 5 months later and I'm having some problems when I eat. Actually, it happens shortly after eating, I get moderate (maybe a 5 on a scale of 1-10) pain that can last 1-2 hours. It's gotten to the point that I'm avoiding eating because I don't want to deal with the pain. It isn't gas pains...and I use stool softeners and laxatives to help with some of it, but unless I'm having a BM after every meal it really isn't a solution for me (and who has time for that kind of routine? lol)

I was wondering if anyone here had some similiar situation and if there was anything you could tell me. I know I should see the doctor...and I am avoiding going. I am so relieved to have a more active life since my hyster that I guess I want a vacation from all the medical stuff...but this pain is getting to be a problem and I feel like I'm going to need to do something. Before I go to the doctor though, I'd like to be as educated about this as I can be so that I know what to ask and what to maybe expect from him.

Thank you for your help.

Rita

Hi Rita........

I'm sorry you find yourself here on "The Road" but I hope it will be a short stay for you.

I know you have been through alot but PLEASE see your DR about this pain you are having. you don't say exactly where the pain is but from your post I am suspecting it is some sort of bowel related pain. i KNOW you don't want to hear this but it's important that you have this problem looked at before it becomes worse.

Please let us know how you are. Lot's of I don't have any first hand experience with blocked bowels but I do know that this can turn very serious very quickly. I'll keep you in my thoughts and look forward to your next post.

Dear Rita,

I am sorry you are on the "road" too. I don't have personal experience with what you describe ... but it sure doesn't sound right. Hopefully you can get in to see a GI doctor soon...
I know it's not what you want to do but maybe look at it from the standpoint that you might catch something early before it becomes a bigger and more urgent problem.

Perhaps there are adhesions pulling the bowel funny so that it spasms when it becomes more active after you eat.

I do hope some other sisters on the road come along soon. Many have had trouble with bowels after their surgeries... so you are not alone!

Many s

(((Rita)))
Please talk with your doctor about these symptoms. It may be something that can be easily fixed. There is no need to suffer needlessly.

I have suffered from tummy issues before and after the hyst. I know how awful it is to not to be able to eat. One thing that may be helpful is to keep a food diary. Write down what you're eating and than note what you experience afterwards, even if you happen to feel no pain, and if you do experience pain note how long it lasts. It is possible that it may be certain foods, or it could be something like acid reflux, or it could be an intestinal problem. I could go on and on with the possibilities. That's one of the problems with stomach issues, the cause may be from soooo many different things that you really need to see your

s to you Rita, I've been thru the wringer with this of mine, so I really do understand what you're going thru and how you feel about going to yet another doc. However, you really do need to go.

Thanks ladies.....

I think I'm going to combine your advice (and accept every hug!).

I'm going to take the next week and keep a food diary with symptoms and what foods I eat and all that and then I'm going to take it to my doc's office with me when I eventually make the appointment. I'm really lousy at making doctor appointments...so it might take me a week or two more to feel like I need to go, but I'll make the food diary and that will get me headed for the doc's office (which I know I will go soon).

Thanks for the help and I will let you know what I find out.
