Visualization and healing prep work

I'm expecting to get a surgery date sometime soon -- will
most likely be for early Nov. Removal of a benign dermoid
tumor, uterus.

I found a guidebook and tape series called Prepare for
Surgery, Heal Faster and ordered it. Seems it is being used
in many hospitals to help people heal and recover --- and
have less pre-surgery anxiety.

Is anyone aware of this ? Any success stories to relate?

I've started taking vitamins and also have determined that
I'm not going to do any late night stints but instead be in
bed by 10 - 10:30 p.m. to go into the surgery with maximum
amount of rest.

I know I'm getting skittish because my typical patience is thin, I'm beginning to think I'd rather live with the bleeding than endure the recovery ,, ,etc.

Thanks for any and all responses.

You are correct in your thinking that the mind can play in important part in recovery. It is crucial. I have seen various tapes like these used with good results. And you are soooooo very right that the calmer we are internally and the more confident we are about our decision the better off we will be.

For me? I can't endure the bleeding and pain any more so to me recovery sounds like a walk in the park. But you don't sound so sure? Maybe you are and your post didn't reflect that....but if you aren't sure I really hope you discuss this with your doc and do more homework until you have all your answers. If your situation isn't critical maybe you have the time to keep searching out your answers?

Good luck- Knowledge is power- keep studying until you are sure.

Hi pm123,

Welcome to Hyster Sisters!!

While I'm sorry that you are facing surgery, I am glad that you found HS and posted to introduce yourself. I don't have any personal experience to share, but several members have mentioned that reading such books and watching tapes have helped them alot.

It's normal to be nervous whenever we face surgery, but since a hysterectomy is major surgery, if you are not sure of your decision, then I would suggest that you get at least one more opinion, and continue to read and research until you feel that the decision that you make is the one which is the best for you, in your circumstances.

If you do decide that surgery is right, then be sure to read the Pre-Op Hints (click here) and the Post-Op Hints (click here). They are full of great advice that will help you to prepare for your surgery and recovery.

I hope you'll continue to read and to post any questions that you may have - we'll do our best to help.

With thanks

THanks to those who posted replies -- and thanks to

all who are sharing so much information. I am so glad that

I am a month away from surgery because I think I'll be able to

use the time to get myself ready (I tend to ask lots of questions).

If my earlier post seemed as though I was uncertain -- well,

I do feel something needs to be done and in the long run,

I do think the hysterectomy will be a good solution. It's just

a bit of working past my fear of pain, etc. Today though at work

I had a good experience with my manager saying that they would

not expect to see me anywhere near the office for 4 weeks.

So that's the latest and I'm sure you'll see my questions and comments popping up in other places around here!
