Is this the right place to whine?

It is, good. Because despite all the physical changes I've had in the last few days, and the emotional swings..yeah I only had one crying jag and two hot flashes yesterday (started ERT last Thursday) there is one thing that keeps bugging me. Up until July of 2001 I had been very active in the local riding scene (horses, not motorcycles). Although my own morgan had recently passed and we decided to sell the ponies after the kids lost interest and I was facing college expenses for them, I still did catch riding for friends at shows and helped with training etc.
Well that July my car was rear ended and effectivly destroyed my riding due to lumbar damage. Hubby has been supportive and we've been biking together regularly with the idea of my building up enough strength in my back that I could ride again, although on a much quieter and slower horse than I used to. Since my surgery, less than two weeks ago, just the sight of a horse on TV starts me crying. Anyone have any suggestions on how i may stop doing this. It's gotten so bad that hubby quickly changes the channel as soon as one appears. It's silly I know, but since the surgery I want to ride again more than I've felt in the past two years. All I can think is that I've ridden since I was 12 (I'm 47 now) and since my kids are grown riding is the one part of my "girlhood" that I want to retain to feel "normal".
Thanks for letting me whine and ramble
Hugs to all
Judy

Is this the right place to whine?

((( Judy)))

I wish that I had words of wisdom and a ready answers for your questions. I've been on a horse once in my life and that scared me to death .
Have you talked to a dr and asked for suggestions on how to strengthen your back? Is there a brace that might help? My DD is a dancer and injured her ankle and had surgery. Now she has to wear an ankle brace when she gets really active.

I don't have answers but I do have lots of s for you.
I'll be that you'll be able to enjoy riding again soon. s

Is this the right place to whine?

Hi Judy

I am not a rider but I do love horses. I know how you are feeling though emotionally. It's because your body has just gone thru all sorts of changes. Your hormones are all out of whack. I had a TAH/BSO on 8/26/03 and the day after my surgery I was a basket case. I cried and cried for no reason at all. You love to ride horses so right now with your emotions going every which way it's hard not to dwell on the bad things. It will get better, it just takes time for our bodies to re-adjust to these changes. I started on Cenestin 3 weeks ago and I am slowly beginning to feel like my oldself again. My crying spells are getting better and my moods seem to be evening out, still having hot-flashes though. Hang in there it will get better.
This site is a great big help so come and whine, cry or laugh anytime.

Here's a great big for you. Good Luck to you. Hope you feel better real soon.
Your fellow sister, Roxy
