ovarian cyst-please help

For those who don't remember me, I had a TVh in 7/2001. So far all paps etc have been normal. (for Cin3)

This past Sunday, I had a very heavy feeling in my bladder, and aches in my right lower side. Thinking it was a bladder infection, I called my GP and got in to see an associate who had an available appt. When he walked in the room, I couldn't believ how young he was!!! Oooh off the subject.

Well, my urine was normal, so he did a pelvic and said although it wasn't enlarged, he could thought their might be a cyst, because it was tender.

So, today I had a pelvic ultrasound, and the tech said it was a cyst, but it fairly large and there were particles in it, probably blood, b/c sometimes they bleed.

SOO now I am freaking out. Could this be cancer??? I never had a cyst before. Right now, it isn't real painful, but I'm aware of it.

I know the tech isn't suppose to say anything, so now I'm wondering what he 'didn't' tell me!!

Oh this cancer head!!
Please pray for me dear sisters!
Do cysts end up cancerous? The dr is suppose to have results by Monday.

I am thinking that maybe you should go and see a gynocologist. This may be my own feelings, but i would never let my general practioner, especially a very young one, do and internal on me. I believe in leaving that stuff to the professionals.

Also, not all cysts are cancerous, and probably the majority of them are not. I know that the waiting game for the results of tests can be a horror.

Keep in touch.

I think at this time you have no need to panic!! Ovarian cysts are fairly common and often blood is contained in them.
Although you will be getting the ultrasound report from your GP, I agree with Ros. Take the report and go see your gyn.
The severe pain could have come with the acute bleeding phase.
But cysts often require a followup in a few months time.
Let us know what happens.

PS: Is it just my imagination or does it seem like very often, ovaries that are left behind cause problems?

Those cysts are annoying! I had one a few years before my hyst--between my 5th and 6th children. It hurt! Then I had one that developed last fall. It was monitored every couple of months and eventually it resolved. It was painful though for about 4 months.

The thing to remember is that a cyst is formed every month that you ovulate. It is part of the ovulatory cycle. The cyst can be up to 4-6 cm in size (is what I understand). Then the cyst resolves. Most women don't typically have any symptoms, some do. Some months the cyst does not resolve or is extra-large and then it's painful. Most are benign and will eventually resolve.

I don't know how to answer your question, Karen. I've read in some places that there is a slightly higher risk of ovarian cyst problems after a hyst, and I've read that there's not. I've heard that perhaps as many as 10% will need to later have one or both ovaries removed, but I don't know how that compares to women who didn't have a hyst. I know a lot of women who have not had a hyst who have had an ovary removed or some laparoscopic surgery done because of cysts. I'm still pleased with my decision to keep my ovaries, though.

(((Transplant))) I hope you are feeling better soon and that you learn all is well. Let us know how things are going!
