New Here... and need support

Hi all... I'm pretty new here... my Dr suggested this site.... she originally planned a LVH for December.... but based on the pain and bleeding I've been having... she upped the date to November 10... she's still hoping to do the LVH....but told me to be aware that she may have to do an abdominal.... sorry I forgot the abbrev......LOL...

anyhow.... question is... does anyone here also have an Anxiety Disorder???... I have GAD.... Generalized Anxiety Disorder... and between the pain I have.. and the anxiety... I'm going through the roof....

I'm also a full time student in the last year of my degree... and I find that I'm weak already.... is this normal?? I'm wondering if it's a loss of blood or something..... the pain shoots down to my thighs and my Dr just prescribed Bextra.... but I hate having to take painkillers all the time... I feel like a little old lady... all hunched over because I can barely walk some days... prof's are pretty good.... I dropped a couple of un needed classes... so I'm only taking 2 classes and one correspondance... so I get there when I can... disability services at the University has note takers for me when I can't get I'm doing a lot of individual study at home... but I find with the painkillers.... I lack alot of concentration..
wow... I didn't realize that this sequed into a minor vent..... sorry all.... but hello....and I hope that this all gets better for us all..... I realize that most of you are probably facing the same pain and hassle I am.... and I sure am glad that you're here

New Here... and need support

Dear N8tvprncss,
There are some women on the site who do suffer from intense anxiety and I'm sure they will be along to give you some specific support... in the meantime, let me welcome you to hystersisters and tell you that it is absolutely the usual drill for a woman facing this surgery to be very anxious....

Perhaps one way to combat some of the anxiety would be to read about what to expect before and after surgery - if you have an idea of what you might be dealing with, it could be easier to face.

Why not take a look at the Pre-Op Hints (click here) and the Post-Op Hints (click here), - they are full of great advice that will help you to prepare for your surgery and recovery.

Please don't be shy to post any questions that you may have - we'll do our best to help.

best wishes,

New Here... and need support

Dear N8tvprncss,
Hyster Sisters has truly been a God send to me. I found this site only a couple of days ago & it's helped calm my nerves, prepared me more fully for my castle visit, and given me a place to go instead of whining to my DH & DD.
While I don't have a GAD, I'm on Wellbutrin, which doesn't seem to be working right now, but I recognize that's my *di*-stress showing.
Read, read, read. Know that the support from all the sisters, whether they post or not, is there for you & for all who visit.

Also have anxiety

Hi n8tveprncss
I also have a Anxiety Disorder, I have been on medication since 1972. Dureing all of the stuff that was going on, with me I was really stressed out ... This made me feel very tired and weak. And yes the loss of allot of blood will do it to. I ended up in ER just before I had my tah, over all of the above. I am doing "GREAT" now and feel so much better, after having surgery. I still have some healing to do. But I am back to liveing my new life without all of the pain ... I wish you the best

New Here... and need support

Thanks ladies... your words of support were wonderful to see.... it made me feel alot better.... a very hormonal day today....but I' trying to think of it in a positive light.... this is the last PMS I will ever have!!!..... my period is due any day.... and it will be my final one.... hopefully it won't last 3 weeks like the last one....LOL

as for the anixety.... I'm on Effexor daily.... and upped to 300mg/day because of the anxiety issues right now.... right now... my anxiety's.... in no particular order....LOL

the surgery.... pretty self explanatory here

school.. will I make it this term.... I have severe grade issues... and it's tough for me to accept that I may not get spectacular marks....

my kids.... I have one that's 15 going on 24.... who has decided that this is a good time to "test his boundaries"....LOL.... that's being polite....he's on the verge of getting kicked out of school for skipping classes... I have 1/2 a mind to send him to the country to live with his dad for awhile.....argh

my fiance and I are attempting to plan a wedding for next summer... we just moved in together in August so we still have a few adjusting things to figure out... nothing major though... he is a tremendous help right now... and I have no idea how I'd get through this without him... I was a single parent for so long... being a full time student and a single parent was bad enough... I shudder to think of how it would be right now with this surgery looming if he wasn't here.....

This site is becoming a real source of strength to me... in just a couple of days I find myself coming here ... reading all the pre op hints and things...... I really enjoy it..... thanks again

I suffer from GAD also and, although my surgery isn't until December, I'm wasting no time by starting the worrying process now.

So, I empathize with your situation.

You don't mention any medication or if you have sleep problems.

For whatever help it might be, here's what I've done/do to find some relief. I've been on paxil for about 4.5 years and that has certainly helped. Also helpful for me is trazadone at night to relax me and help me sleep. It's a wonderful medication and I wake well rested. And, for those high-stress times, I have some xanax (which I use sparingly).

Although it sounds like I use pills as my sole source, I also find relaxation exercies helpful. I recommend Jon Kabat-Zinn (sp?) and his books "Full Catastrophe Living" and "Wherever You Go, There You Are."

I'll be following any of your future posts to see how you're doing and to see what excellent advice others on this site might give. It's a great place to be.

Take care.

Yes I am on meds for the anxiety.....I'm on Effexor daily....and I have Xanax for "bad episodes"... which I use as needed.... and since I do know it's habit forming... I don't take very often....
Sleep problems... yes I do have insommniac nights.... my anxiety tends to be worse at night... my Dr has given me Ativan.... but as with the Xanax... I try not to take it unless it's absolutely necessary.....
usually with anxiety episodes I try to relax... with herbal tea and I have some Native American flute music .....sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't.....
My fiance Dave is really helpful.... he rubs my back lightly when I'm bad..... and holds me.... and that has a calming effect as well...
but like you..... I try not to use the meds unless I really have too....
Right now however... with the surgery in 3 weeks and 6 days.... the anxiety is really bad.....I'm worried sick about school as well.... I haven't been in classes in 2 weeks..... and midterms start next week...... I'm studying like mad at home... but as I miss alot of explanations.... I hope that I can make it through....
