Chemo Delay

My blood tests done Tuesday (Monday was a holiday here so the "Blood Taking" room, as it is labelled, was closed) revealed a low blood platelet count (100,000, with a normal reference range beginning at 140,000).

Still hope to be finished before the end of this year, though! And I am now weighing in at 113.5 pounds - that was fun to accomplish at least! Got one of the oncology nurses to take my picture on the scales! I have decided to also have a photographic diary of this journey, including one getting the actual chemo, so when I think later on if this really happened during this year, there it will be.

Here hoping those platelets start building backup and that soon your chemo treatment is just a memory for you.

I am sooo jealous of the 113lbs. I probably haven't weighted that since middle school. Have you been trying to lose weight?
Be careful of this during treatment. Some gyn/oncs don't like to see weight loss while receiving chemo. A little extra poundage can be a good thing in the midst of treatment.

Thanks for your reply. Before my first surgery (a metastasis - Sept. 2002), I weighed in at about 135 pounds. After, I was basically a scarecrow, weighing in under 100. That surgery had been really rough on me. I looked like a twig that could be easily snapped. So, for over a year, I have been trying to put weight back on. I managed to reach 117 after my TAH/BSO, but then went down again.

However, in the past 3 weeks, I managed to gain 5 and 1/2 pounds to reach 113.5. It did involve cookies, I am reluctant to say. Chocolate chip ones!

Hi WildRose

I am glad to see you were attempting to gain some weight!!!
If I could send you some to the Bahamas I would. As a matter of fact I would even bring you 25 pounds in person if it would work.
Although you may not want 25 lbs.
Stay well.

Wild Rose,

I would also be willing to bring some of my poundage to you, in person. Just like Karenanne, anything to help! I hope that your platelets go up, up, up! Mine were 78.8 yesterday (I had my last chemo last week). The nurse assured me they would go up - I am at nadir right now.

Good luck with the rest of your treatments and enjoy those chocolate chips!
