I truly understand your concern. I had my hys on 4/22/03 and ended up with a fistula. In some ways I think I had the hysterectomy from hell. In addition to the the fistula I had my incision open 2 weeks post op due to infection....ewwwwww!!! I couldn't wait for my incision to heal (from the inside out) so I could get back to a normal life and during the healing process my fistula was diagnosed.

I had surgery to repair the fistula 3 1/2 weeks ago and although they did go through my abdomen to correct it I feel a MUCH better then I did after the hys. I didn't know if I was mentally prepred for it so soon after my hys but I knew I wanted to move on with my life. I had a voiding cystogram last week and it appears as though the surgery was a success and I'm really glad to just have it all behind me. There were many times that I wondered why it happened to me, it didn't seem fair when I knew so many women who had a hys and told me how much better off they were then before the hys. I try to belive that all things happen for a reason and I know "what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger." If nothing else comes out of this experience I know that I am stronger than I ever thought I was.....I've learned to appreciate good health and more than anything else I realize what good friends I have, friends who have went above and beyond to help me out even when I didn't ask but they knew I needed it. So hang in there, I know it's hard at this point. Hopefully, you can look back at this experience and see that there were some positives that came out of it.

You will be in my thoughts.

Hi Shelly

Thanks for your reply - it really does help to know that there are others out there who have been through some of the same.

Hopefully in a few weeks I can look back on this with a positive outlook.

Bye for now, Diana
