I got back from ER around 4 yesterday afternoon. The ER dr just did blood work and urinalysis which came back normal. Basically gave me a shot af toradel and said he thought that the gas they used during the laparoscpoy was irritating my insides, mainly my intestines. Patted me on the head and told me to follow up Monday with my dr about IBS. I'm getting a little tired of hearing that, to be honest. I've looked online and I really have no symptoms of IBS, other than abdominal pain. I don't have diarhea or constipation. So, I don't know.

Dear Karen,

I have heard the same thing about the IBS and I think the same way as you... I don't have the diarhea or the constipation so it doesn't seem to fit very well.

Let us know what the doctor says. You are still so new post op that things could turn around for you.

There is a member of HS who had a Presacral Neurectomy for her pain. For the first several weeks she did not feel better.. in fact was thinking she was worse. Now at 2 months after her surgery she is actually starting to notice she is betterand weaning off the pain meds.

I do hope that everything OK and it is just the healing process. After my 1999 surgery I think I had 3 trips to the ER for shots of Demerol... but in the end that was the surgery that helped me the most for my pain.

Hi,
I'm sorry you had to go to the ER. Did the pain shot help? i understand how you feel about the IBS thing. I was told I have IBS symptoms as well. Before I had my posterior repair for a rectocele and a lap fo adhesions in 2001, My gyn had me go to a GI doctor who did all the GI tests, including a colonoscopy. I was then also disgnosed with diverticulosis, and had 2 bout of diverticulitis. I don't know if IBS has to include the bowel symptoms of constipation and loose stools or not, but I have had them alternating, which is why it fits IBS. What are the plans to address the hernia situation and is that a part of the pain accoding to the doctor? Also, it wouldn't hurt to get a good GI work up and explain your pain to the GI doctor. I do know that the gas pains after my recent surgery were awful, but I am finally doing a bit better in that area. Keep us posted and I do hope you can feel better soon.

Pain shot really did not do anything. I do actually fell a little better today. I'm wondering if it isn't from taking two of the levsin my Gp prescribed. I figured a that point it couldn't hurt. I haven't taken a pain pill today, but I am getting ready to because I am hurting more than earlier.

I go for post op tomorrow and gyn will give me more options. Also, I am still communicating with my GP as to next step. She wants to make sure gyn is in line, I think. I go to gastroenterologist in December.

As for hernia not sure what or when, but gyn is going to send me to a general surgeon for 2nd opinion. Both drs have indicated that they do not feel that this is the source of the pain. I do know that this is something that I am going to try to put off until after the holidays. After this lap knocking the wind out of me, I'm not ready psychologically, mentally, or physically for another one right now.
