High blood pressure after surgery

Is anyone experiencing High Blood pressure after their surgery. I had a TAH on Sept 03 and ever since then I have been dealing with high blood pressure. Last week I went in for a check up and the doctor perscribe Diovan (high blood pressure meds) My pressure has been really high since the surgery. When I was in his office for my checkup my pressure was 170/100 before that it was 153/111. Can anyone help me to understand why my pressure is so high. Is my body just having a hard time healing and it is showing up in my blood pressure or what? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if that is necessarily normal as I don't know how much higher than normal your pressure was and I'm not a doctor, but what I do know is that when you are in pain your blood pressure goes up. I know when I had my c-section and it was infected under the skin, it hurt a lot and because of the infection my blood pressure went way up, and my feet swelled worse than they were durring pregnancy. I tend to have rather low blood pressure but it goes way up after surgery just because of pain or whatever else, so to an extent I know it is normal, however I don't know to what extent and that can indicate a problem, but as long as your doctor is monitoring things you should be ok.

Hia

Your blood pressure depends upon your age and weight as well as your pain levels. Your DR will advise you what is high for you, when you get the figures though say it is 120/70 it is the '70' that you should be interested in, the higher this figure is the more concerned you should be (but that concern or say running to the DRs office to get it checked will all elevate it!). Make sure that your DR keeps an eye on it.

Since my HYST my blood pressure has been really low, in hospital it was 88/53 at one stage .. I'm surprised I didn't pass out but the drugs and lying down will all affect it, so be very weary.

Cheers Toni
