DH shadowing Jeff through the MTs!!!!

On Tuesday, Jeff started heading west into the mountains of Colorado. A slow start at best. He heard reports of the unpredictable weather and found out that services along the route were quite limited. Including food and water. He phoned home Tuesday afternoon and sounded down for the first time, since he left Pitman the end of August. Just no longer sure of the safety factor. Which we told him was always the number one priority.

Sooooo.... this morning, Dad to the rescue. My dear husband cleared his schedule and flew out to Denver. There he rented a car and is currently on his way to catch up with Jeff. Then the plan is for my DH to shadow Jeff through the mountains for the next two weeks. I am sooo relieved. This was the part of the biking trip that had always worried me. Now with Dad there to carry all his gear in the car, Jeff will be able to bike much faster.
And not have to worry about food and water. My DH took a sleeping bag and etc. with him. But I just can't picture him getting his 52 year old body up from the ground each morning.
I know he'll be scouting out some motels.
So now Jeff and Dad are on the adventure and making memories. I knew my DH would find a way to get involved in live time!!!!! DH plans to fly home when they reach Reno Nevada.
And Jeff will continue on to San Francisco and then down the coast.

Catch the updates on Jeff's journal.

Thanks so much for those birthday cards.

Thanks so much for the update, Karen.

And guess what! I came home from work today to find that my birthday card for Jeff was returned from Denver! It never got to Jeff!! He checked out before the card was delivered. Oh! I was soooooo disappointed! I mailed it on Monday, 10/13 from my office (of course, that was the holiday so there was no mail). But even still!! There was a postmark on the card of New Jersey on 10/17 (?!) so I just have no idea what kind of a journey this card might have had. Anyway, if you would PM me your address, I'd love to send it on to you in time for Jeff's return.

Please know that my prayers will include Jeff and your DH's safety. You have an amazing son. I'm following his journal on his website. Too bad he didn't come through Michigan...we would have liked to meet him. You must be very proud of him.

S to You and your family,

DH shadowing Jeff through the MTs!!!!

This is really quite a journey, a family's story, but one that reaches out to all of us. It adds a new dynamic dimension to the 'script' - I think it was Gucu who said what a movie it would make. It would, a story of how one family dealt with the dis-ease, and, through love, won.
