Please help calm me down!

Hi,

I've had several colonoscopies and choose not to be sedated so that I can see what is going on and discuss what's happening with my doctor at the time. I like knowing what the story is and not feeling drugged afterward. I find this painful when the scope is going around corners but not at other times. There are only about four corners. Some people do not experience a lot of pain - my father always had his without sedation and was fine.

If you do have sedation you wn't know much about the outcome until you either see the gastroenterologist or your family doctor after the report is done. This could be a few days but if there is anything really serious wrong it could be right away.Chances are there won't be anything real serious discovered. I agree that your symptoms sound a lot like IBS and if that's the finding it's not a malignant situation, just a real nuisance.

Good luck. Hope things turn out well.
