Post Hyst Ovarian Cyst?

I had my right ovary removed 9 weeks ago. I started having problems with cysts about 9 months ago - my doctor had been watching the cysts for any changes. They had gotten larger and turned from simple, fluid-filled cysts to complex, solid-mass cysts. My surgery was done laparoscopically. The right ovary was adhered to the top of the vaginal cuff and covered with adhesions and cysts - it was removed. My left ovary had some fluid filled cysts that were drained and then the ovary was wrapped in mesh to protect it. I also had numerous adhesions removed that were attached to my bladder, colon, liver, and intestines. I'm now almost 9 weeks post-op and the left ovary seems to be functioning good. The final pathology on my ovary and cyst were benign.

Sit down and discuss your options with your doctor. Some cysts go away on their own - some need to be removed. When I began to have problems 9 months ago - my doctor and I decided to take the "watch and wait" approach for a few months - I had vaginal ultrasounds every 2 months to check the status of the ovary and cysts. The reason we decided to go ahead and remove the ovary was because the cysts changed from simple, fluid-filled cysts to complex, solid-mass and my pain was greatly increased. My doctor said when a cyst begins to change in size and appearance (complex & solid) it needs to be evaluated surgically. This is the only way to make sure that the cyst is or is not a cancer.

Whether or not your cyst needs to be removed depends on the size of the cyst, its appearance, any symptoms you may be having related to the cyst, and if there may be a chance of cancer. If the cyst doesn't go away, gets larger, or has changed from simple to complex your doctor may want you to have the ovary removed.

Post Hyst Ovarian Cyst?

I started having these signs and had to go to ER - they did exrays and cat scans there then seen I had a fairyl large cyst- Scheduled an vaginal ultrasound to see the size and referred me back to my gyno- We waited 6- 8 weeks and then did another ultrasound- the cyst WAS 4.8 cm and on july 14th was 8.2 cm. I am having surgery August the 16th to remove both ovaries.

I had my hysterec in April of 2002- no probs till end of May this year.

I had never had probs with cysts before either.

Hope things go well for you-

cysts after hysterectomy

Thanks to everyone for replying about cysts on ovaries after hysterectomies and sharing your experiences! It helped me a lot. I'm going for preop stuff today. I stayed home from teaching as I was basically crying for two hours this am - most days I've been fine but I think stress is starting to show. I haven't been sleeping well, anticipating another surgery, so I'll tell doc. Also, blood pressure was up and I bet I need to have that down. My cyst is really large (12x8 c.) and has solid masses so I know it has to come out (or at least that is my preference). Surgery is set for August 11th. I realize now from reading the strands that I've been fortunate not to have had more surgery - it really puts things back in perspective... -diane44

Post Hyst Ovarian Cyst?

Ladies I too have a cyst on my one and only ovary left and I go for my 2nd Ultra Sound on Friday and then on the 19th to make a decision on what to do.

I have already decided that I want to take it out and be over with all of this. I have a history of cysts and ruptures and all that and I really can not go through anymore. I thought when my hyster took place a year ago that I would be through with this stuff but no...

My question is my doctor said that he could not do this laporscopic that he would have to go through the incision that was used for C-section and hyster and I am wondering how much recovery this will be. He will also be taking out some adhesions also. I just kinda wanted to give my work a heads up on this and maybe get the paperwork started with short term disabilibty also cause last time I did this I started the paperwork 3 months before the surgery and it was down to the line when it was all said and done.

Thanks for the info in advance.
