Insurance and Surgery Procedures

Because of the confusion as to how many ovaries I have, I decided to do some research on my former doctor. So far I found out that she had her licence suspended for 3 days due to insurance fraud a few years ago. She plead guilty to insurance fraud. I'm still researching other things. It made me think back to before my hysterectomy. She said if she did the laproscopic procedure on me and that if I needed a hysterectomy a year later, then the insurance company would wonder why she didn't just do a hysterectomy first. This is one of the factors that helped me decide to go ahead with the hysterectomy. I'm wondering if this information was right. Especially now that no one can tell from all the records how many ovaries I have. And after the pelvic ultrasound, that didn't help either. I'm also scared that if my former doctor can't remember how many ovaries I have, then did she do something wrong on the inside of me that is causing the pain. I was wondering though does anyone know if it's really true that insurance companies will give a doctor trouble if she does a laproscopic procedure before a hysterectomy and not cover the hysterectomy?

Cathleen,
I think actually the opposite is usually true. Be sure and get all your records, from the doc and from the hospital. I know this may sound hollow, but try and not look back. You cannot change what has been already done. Since my hyst my problems continue to get worse. Did the hyst cause these problems? I really don't know that answer and I cannot go back and put back in my uterus and the 1/2 of an ovary I had left. Actually looking back my problems started way before that, after a dental procedure. Did the dentist mess up? Than there was the botched laprotomy. I need to go forward and try to find some relief from the pain.

Dear Cathleen,

I am sorry you are suffering so much both physical and emotional pain. I had a laparoscopic myomectomy (which failed to relieve my pain) and then a hysterectomy 2 months later for severe pelvic pain due to adenomyosis. My insurance company did not balk and covered both procedures according to my policy.

Take care,
with love and light,
Loretta
