New Person - Single - Kinda Scared...
Hey guys,
What a wonderful forum! This is just what I needed.
I was told about 1.5 months ago by a doc that I needed an abdominal hysterectomy immediately because of fibroids. The guy offered no other options.
I went online and read about UFE/UAE and spoke with a radiologist about it... his recommendation was the hysterectomy.
In one last-ditch effort, I spoke with the head of the OB-Gyn department at an extremely large and prestigious research hospital in a nearby city. He said that vaginal was not a problem with a couple of Lupron Depot shots in between now and then.
I'm 46. I've had fibroids for years with no apparent problems. Now, all of a sudden, I'm bleeding like crazy, getting horrible migraines, and cramping to the point it's difficult even to feed my pets in the morning. I'm not sure if it's the Lupron or not - would like some feedback on that if you have any.
I'm also concerned about recovery - what's involved and the average length of hospital stay/recovery time.
I'd like to hear the good AND the bad and anything I should be telling my doc beforehand. My sister tells me there's something that they can add to your IV before the surgery that keeps you from getting sick after - if anyone knows what that is.
Thanks!

Hi Jowen,
You should check out the side effects of Lupron... Those sound like Lupron side effects to me.... of course, check with your doctor.

Best wishes!
The 1st thing that you should do is make sure that you are as educated as you can be so that you can make informed decisions...
This is your body!! You cant just hope that the right thing happens, you have got to take care of yourself! You only get one uterus (as far as I know) and youve got to fight for it sometimes!
If you are having problems relating to this dr. you may want to get more opinions!!! I am not above going to as many as I need to until I get an answer that makes sence to me!!!!!
I do not know anything about that other stuff, Im still learning...I just wanted to let you know that we all support you & will be here for you, just let us know what you need!!!
I hope that you take the time to ask, ask, ask questions so that you wont be worried that you were rushed into this...
Have a good one!

Questions
I did ask hon... that's how I ended up with Dr. #3. I believe he's a good doc, but I am dealing with Lupron and its side-effects. So, the reason I was writing was to find out if others were experiencing this and also to find out more about my recovery potential. From what little I have read here - recovery time varies. It's realllllly difficult to find out "exacts" when there don't seem to be any.
Anywho, thanks for taking the time to write and hope to find out more as I peruse the files.

Hi again Jowen,
I had disabling migraines, too, about 9 a month, made it very hard to live a normal life. After I had one botox treatment and started HRT, I have had one headache, and it was resolved with two excedrin tablets. I have my life back now!
Life is sooooo good now. After my hyst I expect I'll be doing really, really well.
