Radiation Questions

Hello again and I'm full of questions, as usual
I'm making this into a two part post in hopes of not getting it all confused.

I will be starting radiation treatments within the next few weeks, or maybe even just a week.

This is really going to sound stupid, but, do you loose the hair on your head from pelvic radiation?
I am guessing....NOT......but just wanted to be prepared. If you do, I'm getting mine cut short right now. If not, I'll want until just before the chemo treatments.

#2.....any special diet tips? Foods to avoid while having radiation and also foods you should eat alot of?

Thank ya all,
nancy j

Radiation Questions

Hi, You will not lose hair on your head with radiation. You may lose the hair in your pubic area with the radiation. Depending on your symptoms there are different foods to avoid and to eat. If you have diarrhea then bananas and rice help. At the hospital where I had my radiation I also met with a nutritionist who helped me find a diet I could tolerate while having the treatments. Take care of yourself and try to eat good to keep up your strength. Take Care.

Radiation Questions

The radiation doctor siad i would ot lose any hair. He was wrong. My head head hair came out in chuncks when I brushed it, and left a small yet visable hole on my head. It was scary. I lost most all of my pelvic hair. Some grew back , some didn't.

Eating depends on you. Stay away form spicy foods. I had both constipation and sometimes diarrhea. I had to eat a lot of crackers, rice, breads and banannaas helped. My son's doctor called it BRAT. bannas, rice and tea is good. No citrus. Whaterver I ate make me sick. Doctor gave me Compazine, helped a little sometimes. I still have eating problems, but not so much anymkore.
