bowel endometriosis??

Hi everyone.

Has anyone experienced endo in the bowel? My doctor want to examine this possibility.
I have been diagnosed with vaginal endometriosis and still have problems associated with that. My bowels act up like clockwork two days after the spotting begins. It feels like I have to have a serious BM but can't. I suffer from serious pelvic cramps and pain. all that comes out is mucous.
There is no blood in my stools. I was just wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with endo of the bowel and if so can you have this without blood being present in the stool?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Karen

bowel endometriosis??

Dear Karen,

I am sorry you are continuing to have problems. I have been told as long as I have a functioning ovary I am at risk for endo.

I don't have any experience with bowel endometriosis. Your symptoms sound like they could be from several possibilities....
I did read somewhere that patients with vaginal endo are more likely to have rectal endo.... I think they called it rectovaginal endometriosis. Someone posted about that recently. Perhaps you could try a search?

Let us know what you find out. I am scheduled for surgery in two weeks for my continuing pain. The doctor thinks I am still having endo trouble too. He is planning to do a PSN as well (for the pain).

vag hyst 10-28-03

I am curious about your pain description. About 4-5 days ago i started having what I would describe as colon spasms...they come and go and when they hit, its bad enough I moan and double over....it goes aways as fast as it comes. I was thinking maybe I was constipated, started the stool softner, no relief of the pains tho. There is of course deep lower constant slight discomfort also. I have never had any type of colon problems, no blood or mucus that i have noticed...I am j=sick of these spasms things....

endo on my colon

Hi Karen.

I have severe endometriosis. About 6 years ago, I had a laparoscopy to diagnose it, and found out that I have endo all over my colon, and it is somehow attached to my fallopian tube. It has always amazed me how this pain in my colon is so attached to my period, yet I don't see blood in my stools either. I have all sorts of digestive problems because of it, but nothing even compares to the pain I have when I am actually on my period. I am going to have a hyst sometime in Jan or Feb, and am currently trying to decide whether or not to have my ovaries and/or cervix removed also. If you want to ask me any more questions about endo, or anything else really, you can feel free to email me <[email protected]>

Hugs,

Michelle

bowel endometriosis??

Karen:

Had enough endo on my colon at one time to seriously scare the doc. He thought I was close to bowel perforation (a hole caused by the endo implants) and he told my family after the lap that it could be fatal. Never got to that point and I am down the road 12 years. So, don't panic, but get it treated.

It caused constipation & cramping right before my period followed by loose stools. Was very happy to get that lasered off.

No blood in the stool with this, either.

Sounds like you have a good gyn.

endometriosis and bowels

Long before my TAH in April, I had had problems with endometriosis.

I did not know I had endometriosis or a large mass that had enveloped my right ovary.

Every morning after I ate breakfast (or drank something) my bowels would go wild. I had cramping that doubled me over. They would continue until I had finished emptying my bowels.

Also, immediately before my period began, I would have the same thing occur. The flow did not start until I was finished. And I had trace bleeding from the back end as well.

The cramps and the back end bleeding ended after I had surgery for the endometriosis in 1987. Dr said that the endo was growing on everything including the intestines/colon, etc. He burned all of those areas. They later developed scar tissue which had to be taken care of in 1993. But those bowel troubles never returned.

The only advantage was that I never began a period without knowing and having a toilet near.

Later after that surgery, I read an article that said that those suffering from endometriosis often have unexplained bleeding from the back end that stops when they are treated successfully for the endo. If I had read that beforehand, I would not have waited to get checked. I thought I had something wrong with my colon.

bowel endometriosis??

My Gyn is sending me to a colorectal specialist. After reading all these stories I called and told him that I have been having a small amount of rectal bleeding at the time when I would have had my period.... (I already had a TAH). I haven't noticed any other bowel symptoms.... maybe it is just hemmorhoids that just get irritated once a month. The thing that made me think twice though was that it hasn't been related to bowel movements.

ANyway, the Gyn told me that I definately needed to rule out/in whether it is endo. He also told me that I should discuss having the "test" done when I am actually having the bleeding because it can be difficult to see otherwise.

I have been slow to schedule this appointment.... I think I am just not looking forward to yet another doctor looking at my private parts

bowel endometriosis??

I'm scheduling my hyst ( uterus and cervix ) in January. I have recently started to associating bowel problems, constipation for two days before periods start and diarhea for the two heaviest days during. I had mentioned this to my primary care at routine visits he didn't think there was any relationship between my periods and bm's but my GYN says he hears that alot. I am going to ask him about endo in bowel when I have my preop visit. That's what I like about this site is I'm getting prepared to ask all the right questions and my doc is easy to talk to and really takes whatever time is necessary to answer questions. My lap shows no endo so the suspected diagnonsis is adeno but since I really didn't have too many symptons until two years ago I hadn't figured out that all of them are probably related. Hopefully that means that once I have had the surgery I will feel even that much better. By the way does anyone suffer from gas around "that time of the month" as well?
