LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD NERVE DAMAGE FROM SURGERY

I had a hysterectomy October of 1997. I woke up in severe pain. Pain way out of the normal. Even after four days post surgery I was on IV demerol. I went home on IV demerol. To make a very long story short, it appears that during the surgery to much pressure was applied to the abdominal wall and the nerves were damaged. For some reason the nerve damage continue to spread until it covered about 30% of my body. I spent two years at Pain Clinic trying to find out what was wrong, what could be done and trying to get the pain under control. After that time I found out I have a disease called Reflex sympathetic dystrophy that was caused by the surgery. I am now disabled and have problems walking and still need morphine for pain control. It is now obvious, since three years has passed that this is a permanet injury. I was looking to see if anyone else has had something like this happen. Please post or email if you can relate to this. Thank you Marcia

Marcia

Marcia,

I'm sorry I do not have that problem, but I just wanted to say I will keep you in my prayers so you may find relief from this pain. IS there anything that can be done to correct this problem? Please keep us posted!

Have you been over to the Neurology Webforums
at Mass. General Hospital? They're at
http://neuro-mancer.mgh.harvard.edu/...n/Ultimate.cgi

Lots of posts there on RSD.

So sorry about what you've been going through. Makes me feel like a crybaby by comparison...

LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD NERVE DAMAGE FROM SURGERY

Funny, you should mention this topic, I too feel like my pain is nerve damage, and my doctor tripped on the subject last week, and I have been thinking about it ever since. For me, it is bladder pain. I am going to post something about my last office visit and what resulted. thanks for sharing that info with us, I am going to see a pain dr next week. And I too am sorry, that something that promised to be a reprieve from a problem turned out to be a so bad for you. It seems like there are more of us around than there should be. take care of yourself.
