PET scan results

Hello Sisters,

Well, I got the results back today from my PET scan and they were not good. The pathology from my hysterectomy came back indicating I had cancer in one of my ovaries. Gyn/Onc said they thought they got it all and recommended 6 rounds of chemo to make sure there weren't any straggling cells. Prognosis was "excellent".

I then had to have a stent put in for an obstructed ureter that was a result from my surgery. On the CAT scan they did the Gyn/Onc notice I had two spots on the lower lobes of my lungs. A full chest CAT scan was done and they found 3 nodules, each less than 1 cm. My onc ordered a PET scan to find out if there were any other surprises and in addition to the lung noddules they found 2 "tiny" spots on my liver. This has obviously changed my prognosis and treatment and has totally stumped my doctors. They said that if this is ovarian cancer it is acting very strangely. This is very treatable, but she says there is a small chance of it being curable.

Bottom line is that they will treat with a different blend of chemo and after two treatments they will perform another scan to make sure they are not growing or increasing. Funny thing is, I have no cancer anywhere else in my abdomen.

Has anyone been through this or known of anyone that went through this? I could really use some words of inspiration from survivors.

Hugs to all.

PET scan results

Hi Carla....Ain't this the pits!!!! lol

I am sorry to hear that the news was not as predicted but am sure that everything will work out fine. I too had ovarian cancer and was told to consider it an illness like arthritis. You will never be cured but you can live with it and there will always be new research and treatments.

Keep in touch.

Hi Carla

I'm sorry the PET scan didn't give better news. May the chemo knock out any of those leftover cells once and for all. Rosalie's right--they now look at this like a chronic disease and keep treating and there is good stuff coming down that popeline.

PET scan results

Hi Carla,

Last November I had a Pet Scan that showed caner in my pelvis, abdomen, around trhe bladder and a spot on my liver. I had had surgery in Aug and the dr said they got it all and the pathology report showed that itnhadn't spread. My Dr's couldn't figure it out, still to this day aren't sure where the cancer originated. They only knew it was squamous cell. I started chemo on Thanksgiving week and finished in March. I had a Pet scan in Janyary that showed the cancer was gone. Scan in April and October also show no cancer. The chemp was no picnic, but now I am feeling fine, although still having problems from the surgery. You wil get thri this. If you want do a search on my old posts from last year and it might help, You are in my prayers.
