prolapsed uterus

I am new to the list and have been reading and learning a lot from all of you. This is a great site. Over the past few years after entering menapause (at the age of 43, now I am 50) I have had problems but in the last year it has been one thing after another. In October when I went for my check up the dr. said that my uterus has prolapsed and is tilted. He looked back in my records and saw that it has been noted for severl years.
Like many of you I have a lot of pressure feelings, pain and feeling of soreness during and after intercourse. I have had bleeding after intercourse and lower back pain. The dr said that all goes with the prolapse and that I may be looking at a hysterectomy. He put me back on hormones after I had been off for several months after the scare in the media. After my visit I found your site and after doing a lot of reading I decided I wanted to go ahead with the surgery but he wants to give the hormones a few months to see if they help with any of my symptons.
The problem now is that I have started bleed from my vagina after a bowel movement if I have to strain very much. It will be bright red and only last for a little while. Has anyone had this problem and if so what do you think is going on here.
Thanks so much for your help and for this wonderful site. Sorry for the long message.

prolapsed uterus

Welcome to Hyster Sisters!

The problem you describe was recently described by another sister about two weeks ago. A few responded to that post stating they'd had the same problem. I am on Depo Provera again, (pending my surgery in December). Since I consistently have light bleeding/spotting on Depo, I'd never put it all together before reading that post. However, after reading it, I realize my bleeding "picks up" a little after BMs and after standing for a long time at work, (I'm a nurse so there's not much sitting). In other words, any extra/excess pressure on the uterus/cervix seems to create bleeding for me. Therefore, based on my experiences and those of others I've read about here, it seems like your experience is pretty normal. It wouldn't hurt to mention it to your doctor, however.

Best wishes!!

Hi,

Welcome to Hystersistewrs, a great place for hyst info and support.

I think that calling your dr about the bleeding after a bm is a good idea. IMHO, it's better to be cautious.

Here's the link to some great pre op articles, maybe they can be helpful to you.
