shingles again :(

well I"m trying to keep a stiff upper lip here but if it weren't bad enough that my bladder is freaking out and fallin' out...and my lower back is killing me and for some reason my peripheral vision has disappeared (see the eye specialist this week) Sat afternoon I get a red hot poker pain in my back and "surprise".....I have shingles........again........

spent most of Sat night in a taxi trying to find a clinic open so I could get the antiviral med's finally found one.....he says my family doc should leave a standby prescription on file for this and possibly send me to an "infectious disease" doc because I keep getting it.....

it's very close to my spine and hurts like a son of a gun....wraps around my side and goes up my chest to my neck, doc said I was lucky it didn't make it to my face.......

part of me thinks if they would just fix what's wrong with the rest of me maybe my body wouldn't have such a hard time keeping up and wouldn't develop things like this!

thanks for listening girls...what would I do without y'all?

shingles again :(

Ahhh (((Gidge)))

I'm sorry that you have shingles on top of everything else.... it is undoubtably due to the stress on your body

I had shingles in one leg when I was 5. The doctors are always skeptical that I had shingles that young but the story was that my sister had chicken pox, and during the incubation period after I caught them from her I fell off the arm of a rocking chair I was standing on and suffered two deep cuts along my mouth requiring multiple stitches (long story). The doctor told my mother that the stress of the accident caused the chicken pox to manifest as shingles.... I never got the chicken pox... just shingles.

I still remember how painful my leg was and I had a painful recurring cyst on the back of my knee until I was a teenager.
So I cannot imagine how much pain you are in having it in your torso....

I hope the antiviral meds help clear it up quickly.

shingles again :(

(((Gidge))) I hope you feel better soon. Dealing with pain on a daily basis can weaken our immune system. My accunpuncture doc keeps telling me that my body is very weak and fragile from dealing with these problems for such a long time.

(((Gidge))) ,
I'm sorry to hear about the shingles I developed these for the very 1st time back in Feb & did they ever do a number on me. Mine turned into Post-Herpetic Neuralgia then into RSD...mine went untreated causing permanent nerve damage. I was looking around, also had some info I had collected before, & found some very interesting things I thot might be of interest to you:

Recurrent Post-herpetic neuralgia:

Shingles FAQ. Free Check for Early Signs of Disease:

PHN and Shingles Pain Relief Resource Center:

Having experienced the severe vertigo, weakness, fatigue and blurred vision in the past simply made me assume that I had caught a "bug" again and I simply needed to give my body time to recover

Through the years I continued to experience severe vertigo, weakness, fatigue, pain, blurred vision, difficulty hearing, frequently falling, and cognitive problems....difficulty understanding what was being said to me or difficulty remembering words. There were times when I simply could not carry on a conversation. Other times I found I could no longer add or subtract or remember alphabetical order....
The problem is that in most cases of remitting and relapsing m.s. a diagnosis can only be made during a flare-up.....or exacerbation of symptoms. Approximately 5% of m.s. patients never receive a definite diagnosis.
Finally, I was diagnosed with Remitting and Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis. Apparently the recurring episodes of shingles caused a relapse of my m.s. This , in turn, caused another shingles episode. It had turned into a vicious cycle and I was worn out. Both shingles and multiple sclerosis are problems of the immune system and my immune system was wearing out.
multiple sclerosis:

Multiple Sclerosis Info: Explore MS news, community and ways of disease management...

I thot the Shingles w/reference to MS would be something you should read (((Gidge))) Good Luck...this ca be soo very painful I hope you can get those meds & some relief soon...(((hugs)))

shingles again :(

thanks for the replies and hugs girls they are much needed today!

Sheri, I was talking to my Mum on Sunday and she said that one of the first signs of her MS was problems with her peripheral vision and recurring shingles (both of which I have)......I don't want to get all worked up about it but between that and me being so freakin tired all the time, memory that just gets worse everyday....well the list just goes on....I'm going to get in and see my GP tomorrow night after work (I see the eye specialist tomorrow as well) and am going to just say that I want to get to the bottom of all this.....

thanks for all the links I'm swamped at work but am going to try and get back to them this aft and check it all out, they did an MRI of my brain only about 2yrs ago to check for MS and it didn't show anything but my Mum's showed up in her spine not her brain....

I didn't wear a bra to work today in hopes it would help with the pain on my back from the shingles so far it's long as I don't move it's pretty good.....there's a joke about that isn't there? I have to laugh or I"ll likely go hysterical!!

shingles again :(

Gidge, I think somewhere along the line we must be related - hysts, adhesions, prolapse, shingles, can't be a coincidence, can it?

Have your gp check your IgG levels - total and each subclass. Its just a blood test, but your immune system is acting a lot "older" than it should be.

Aww Gidge, still going through more troubles! You have been on this road for some time now. Shingles, man what else do you need? Its one thing then the next and it seems to just keep adding it's list to the list of problems. I'm sure you don't need any more of this. My sister has MS and had it since she was 22 years old. she is not in a wheel chair yet but keeps on walking around with a cane. She finally had back surgery due to weakening of her vertebrae. For some reason one of the vertebrae was crushed and still can't figured out how or why.

I hope that you get to the bottom of this and really find out what causing all of this. Get your Doctor to do everything. I don't care what! If your find you a pain then find another one. It is time to search for one who will do all the research and homework for you. You need this right now. This just can't continue anymore. It just too much for you!

Take care my and a big on to you!
