Wow, its getting closer!

Hello all, I am having my surgery on Dec. 5th and I am extremely nervous. I'm not to worried about the pain afterwards but the whole being put to sleep thing gets to me. I've had lots of problems for the last 2 years and I've been put out several times but for some reason this one really scares me. The last 2 times I've been put out they had to leave the breathing tube in a little longer because of my oxygen leve. I'm sure thats why I'm so scared!! I'm afraid that I might not wake up. Also I'm very clausterphobic (sp) and when they put that oxygen mask on me I freak because I feel like I can't breathe. I'm hoping that they'll give me something the morning of to help me calm down. I already have anxiety & panic disorder and surgery just makes it worse. Its only 4 days away now and all I think about is the surgery. I'm sorry if I keep rambling on and on, I'm just nervous. My knee is bouncing 90 to nothing. Well I've been browsing the message board for awhile now and I've posted a couple of times and everyone has been so wonderful. I love having the support. And if I post a few more times before friday, I'm sorry. I need something to help calm me down.

Thank you all so much

Wow, its getting closer!

Hi, Rhonda,

Most of us are nervous about having surgery. Is your doctor aware of your anxiety/panic disorder? If not, you need to tell him/her. If you don't already take medication to help with this, medication is available. Please discuss this with your doctor, if you haven't already done so.

Good luck with your surgery, and keep on posting. Please let us know how you're doing.

Best wishes,
Helen

((( Ronda )))

Helen is right, a good many of us get very nervous about this surgery. It is a major surgery and it's normal is be a bit nervous.
However, I also agree that you should discuss your anxiety/ panic disorder with your dr if you have not already done so. There should be something that you can take to help relieve it some while you wait.

I was given something in my IV the morning of my surgery and it calmed me to the point that I really didn't care what was being done. I can't really remember much of that day at all. LOL.

Just keep on coming here and we'll help get you through these last few days of your wait. Then - you'll be a
