Ovarian Cancer Awareness Postage Stamp

Hello Ladies!

Our own Karenann posted the following over on the Cancer Concerns forum. With her permission I have copied it here because I thought that many of you might like to sign a petition that would help us to get an Ovarian Cancer postage stamp approved to help increase awareness.

We sisters are here for a variety of reasons, and Ovarian Cancer is one of them.

Anything we can do to help other women to benefit from early detection is a good thing! Awareness increases our own personal knowledge, that of our doctors, and brings in much needed research dollars.

Ovarian cancer, the deadliest of gyn cancers, is often called the Silent Killer because the symptoms are often quiet & ignored or mislabeled as being related to other, more benign disorders.

So let's be LOUD & help get this stamp approved! For all of our sisters, daughters, mothers, EVERYONE!

If you are interested in participating, please do so & then pass the link on to friends & family!!!

It is very quick & easy to do and they only require your name & an email addr. for verification purposes.
They DO NOT post your email addr unless you request it.

Here is Karenann's post:

The ovarian cancer awareness stamp was not approved this fall.
However, the effort is now underway again for September 2004. The goal is 40,000 signatures this time around.
Please click on the following link and sign up.
Also consider sending it to your entire address book.
As we all know, awareness is half of the battle.

Please sign the on-line petition to support the creation of an ovarian
cancer awareness postage stamp:

If a gyn cancer is suspected, please consult with a gyn oncologist!!!!"

As Karenann said, this did not pass this year. But they didn't have the Hystersisterhood behind them then!

s Thank you!

I signed it, giving my last state of residence in the USA. I thought that would be more effective. Used my real name, of course.

For the life of me, I cannot understand what the problem is! Can't the Postal Authority just DO IT?! They gave Elvis a stamp, only asking on folks to vote on the picture. What do they think will offend people? The word ovary? The word cancer? Wasn't there a breast cancer stamp a few years back?

Marian, yes there is a breast cancer stamp. Thank god!!!

I wonder if they have to know that it will sell.
Just wondering, I do not know that. Of course, general interest would be a concern.

Still, I think there are enough people out there who ARE interested, we just need to get to them all so they SIGN!!!

Just wanted to let you know...Karenann posted on the Cancer forum that she found Ovarian Cancer awareness pins for sale at Claire's Boutiques! Isn't that wonderful?? I have never seen anything like that anywhere before! Bought several and already need more.

They cost only $2.25 and are really nice! Teal ribbon with a "diamond" in the center.
The card they come on is informative re symptoms etc & states that part of the proceeds go to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. How cool is that?

Pretty & IMPORTANT!!!

Three cheers for Claire's!

to all
