Sisters in Christ -I need to hear from you!

My name is Tracy. I am a Christian and would love to hear from any other sisters in Christ who have gone through surgical menapause.I am 37 years old & having my total hysterectomy in January and am concerned about the hormonal changes (i.e. emotional rollercoaster feelings) ,I may experience after I get home from the hospital.
Are there any suggestions to help me prepare for the recovery at home since I have three young children? Should I see my hormone speacialist nurse practitioner & get some hormone cream before surgery so I am better prepared for mood swings or whatever? What can I do to make myself more comfortable when I have a hot flash ? PLease no negative stories-I am already too nervous & have heard enough horror reports to last forever.
In His Love,

Sisters in Christ -I need to hear from you!

Hi Tracy,

Glad you found Hyster surgery is in Jan also so I can't really advise you as far as what to expect but if you go to the top of this page where it says "more hyster sisters" and click on the arrow then go down to "pre-op questions". It will take you to a page where there is lots of info for us LIW.

I, too, am a Christian and it's wonderful to know God truly cares for all of us...even when we forget and get nervous about what lies ahead. I think He totally understands and wants us to lean on Him.

You didn't post your surgery date (mine is Jan 5) but just know we'll all be for you and hope this site answers many of your questions.

Sisters in Christ -I need to hear from you!

Dear Tracy:
I do not yet have a date for surgery. (We meet again on Wednesday to discuss treatment options.) But I will pray for you and I will also advise you to get others praying and then arm yourself with information.
I am so thankful for this sight and for the information and encouragement I have gleaned from it.
I am a speaker for Christian women's groups, retreats, and banquets and my excessive bleeding is a problem in my ministry, but it is even a bigger problem as I mother our children. Remember a healthy mom is best - especially with three young blessings!!! So trust that this will help in this ministry of raising Godly children. Then, try to rest in Him.

Hang in there and pray! pray! pray!

Hey Princesses! help Tracy best prepare for this!

Dear Tracy,

I'm sorry I have no helpful info. Just wanted to say hi to a sister in Christ! Just put your trust in Him and you'll get through the valleys. I will pray for you.

My hysterectomy is planned for Dec. 29. I am nervous too.

I won't go on. You need to hear from some of the others who have already been through it.

Sisters in Christ,

Sisters in Christ -I need to hear from you!

Hi Tracy,

I am new to the site too, and have just posted on the cancer concerns board. It's the second post I've written and both times I've heard right away from someone sending their best. I am a Christian too and I am finding myself, more often than not, lost in worry instead of trusting in the Lord. Thanks for posting and reminding me what I need to do! I'm 36 and have 4 young ones, so of course there are going to be times of worry, but my doc is a Christian also and that is a BIG deal to me. My prayers are with you and all my new "sisters". I'm a "January girl" too, by the way. The 13th.

Please keep in mind that hystersisters is a women helping women website. It doesn't matter if we are Christian, Protestant, Jewish, Jehovah's Witness, etc or no formal religion at all. We are here because of one common tie that binds us....hysterectomy. Let's not exclude women from this thread who may not be Christian.

Sisters in Christ -I need to hear from you!

Hi Tracy, I just wanted to let you know that everything will be fine. I have never felt better since having my hyster almost 2 years ago.

Have groceries and things that you will need on hand before you have your surgery, since driving will be a no no for a while. Make sure you have someone who can watch your children when you need to rest, because you will be tired for a while, but it won't be that bad. I got through and have children myself. The first couple of weeks are the hardest physically, so just take it easy and listen to your body. Keep hydrated, eat healthy and stay away from foods that cause constipation. All will go well if you just give yourself time to heal and don't expect too much right away.

I did not have my ovaries removed since I was only 32 at the time, but I did have some hormonal fluctuations while my ovaries were sleeping. I'm assuming they will put you on hormones right away? Talk to your dr before hand about any concerns you have in that area.

Hi Tracy,

It is a tough road but you will make it. There is a prayer request forum on hystersisters. You will find many spiritual women there. It is a nice forum. I go there quite a bit. I am sure your faith will get you through the tough times. You should probably wait and see what types of symptoms you may have after the surgery. Your Dr may want to discuss any HRT they want you to be on after the surgery.

Good Luck.
