Halfway Through Radiation

Just thought I'd update you all on my "radiation journey". Last Friday was Treatment #14 which put me halfway through.

Side effects so far have been manageable with meds.
Diarrhea hit the second week of treatments and Imodium AD is working well.
Nausea hit the very first treatment! but since I am having whole abdominal treatment area, this isn't unusual. Antinausea med working well on that.

At beginning of treatments, both legs were affected with terrible pain. Was almost impossible to stand up. This has cleared up in my right leg, but the left one is still giving me fits. It is the worst when I first get up of a morning, or after taking a nap. I am having to take pain pill to be able to walk.
I have no idea why this is happening, but am going to mention it to my rad/onc doc Monday.

Fatigue is beginning to take its' toll. All side effects of radiation are cumulative and I do get tired very easily. No meds for that, just have to rest alot.

Emotionally? Oh, I'm up and down. And moods change within seconds. One minute I'm fighting and looking toward a victorious ending.....next minute I'm wondering if I'm fighting for nothing. I'm probably describing how each one of us feels at times.

I really miss pizza. So, anyone who can still eat pizza....have one for me in celebration of my halfway mark, k?

Always thinking of you all,
Nancy J.

Halfway Through Radiation

Hi Nancy,
Congratulations on you journy so far. One day at a time is the only way. YOU ARE going to win this war so keep on fighting. My radiologist / onc. told me the attitude makes a world of difference and I believe her.
Three weeks ago you had this all ahead of you and now it is more half over and you did it.
Best wishes for a successful second half.

Halfway Through Radiation

Hi Nancy

It's funny, but pizza was my "last meal" so to speak before starting chemo. Sure doesn't sound good now though.

Just wanted to let you know I'm pulling for you to get through the rest of that radiation. If it helps any, I can tell you that I'm still handling cycle 1 OK. Today was harder than yesterday, but I'm perking up a little this evening. I've been able to eat and no real nausea. Just tired and achey... but nothing we can't handle, right? I just spend alot of time wondering when I'll start to feel better again. I should try to find a distraction I guess.

I hope you can get that leg pain thing taken care of. Sounds pretty miserable and I'm sure that's contributing to your feeling a bit down.

your support

I don't know what I would do without you all cheering me on. This is all such a different life than I have lived in my 49 years. I was always the cheerleader for everyone around me. I never dreamed that anything could happen to me that would ever make me get so down in the dumps like this has.

And Limbo? You still absolutely amaze me with how you are handling that chemo......you go girl!!! My 'last meal' before the hyst. was baby back ribs and boy oh boy they were good

Rosalie, I think I'll start clipping the pizza coupons in preparation for when I am back on a regular diet.

Maude Rose, I have a tendency to forget sometimes to just do one day at a time. You're right.....I'll get that back 'in focus'.

Thank you gals,
nancy j

Halfway Through Radiation

Just wanted to say, Congratulations! on reaching the halfway point. Good for you! It's not easy.

I have to say, too, that you made me laugh when you talked about "your last meal". During my treatment, there was one night where I was just dying for an vanilla ice cream shake. Now, this is really unusual for me... In any event, I asked my husband to go out and get me one. And, boy, did I enjoy that shake! It was great!

But it wasn't long after that when I started getting as sick as a dog! Oye! It was awful! I think I was sick two or three times that night.

On my next visit to the doctor, I told him about the whole episode. He asked me if I really enjoyed it and was it worth it? My answer: You betcha!! (Just goes to prove that sometimes my "sickness" is in my own head! lol!)
