Gastro intestinal problems? Body's acting like fibroids are back,

I am a 31 year old woman with a history of uterine fibroids. After two myomectomies and yet another severe fibroid recurrance, I elected to have a supracervical hysterectomy in July 2003. My wonderful parents made sure my recovery was as pleasant as possible.

However, for the past 1 1/2 months I have had a bloated stomach, feel pressure on/in my stomach, a feeling of constant fullness, change in my breathing (like something is pushing on my diaphragm), occasional shooting pain in my lower stomach, passing gas, general discomfort in my stomach/pelvic areas, occasional nausea and--for the past week--continuous diarrhea whenever I have to go to the bathroom.

I have seen my ob-gyn, who has scheduled an ultrasound and recommended I see a gastro-intestinal specialist. I have also scheduled an appointment with my surgeon/reproductive endocrinologist. Has anyone else had similar symptoms months after hysterectomy? Are gastro intestinal problems normal after surgery?

Thanks so much for your help.

Me Too

I had a tah/bso in April 2003 and recently have been having a lot of pain. went to doctor and he has scheduled an ultra sound but said it is probably adhesions and gave me Motrin, which by the way I cannot take so I really don't know whats going on, but only you know your body.

Gastro intestinal problems? Body's acting like fibroids are back,

Hi just a quick note about the bloating and gas...Oh how I love this site!

well, I am almost 8 weeks post op. I am finding myself the last week, as I get more active, getting bloated and needing to "pass wind" a little more.

I have never had gas be so uncomfortable, but what I am doing is taking a couple of simethicone tablets 2 times a day. It sure relieves with the gas but if I am not careful, it does not help the social status!

I had never used simethicone before until after surgery when I was hurting so bad and all of the nurses in the hopsital kept giving me pain pills and finally one nurse pulled the sheets off of my stomach and pulled up my gown (don't you love the tact of some of those nurses) but God love her, she said I needed to fart. She gave me 2 simethicones a glass of water and a cup of hot tea. She came back 15 minutes later, rolled me on my side and said she was vacating the premises. a couple minutes later I had about a 2 minute fart, or so it seemed, and she came back with a can of lysol and an extra pillow because I was laughing so hard and in such horrendous pain from laughing!

simethicone is my friend. oh, how the scope of my life has been reduced to this...

Gastro intestinal problems? Body's acting like fibroids are back,

Okay, thanks for reminding me about the gas pains. I just replied to another post about the Morphine pump for pain and I told the girls that I didn't have any pain or any problems, but I TOTALLY forgot about the gas. AAAARRRHGGGG!!!!!!!!! That had to the worst part of that entire experience. My recovery was great AFTER I passed the gas (no pun intended) stage. The next 2 days after the surgery was awful. I don't think i've ever felt pain like that......and a series of nice long 5 minute farts totally fixed the situation.....HA!

Thanks for the memories....my 1 yr post-op anniversary is Jan 29th, this month.

Gastro intestinal problems? Body's acting like fibroids are back,

Hi There!

I saw this post and thought it was very interesting and ME! I suffer from Intestinal Ulcers...Back in 2001 looking for Endometriosis they did a Colonoscopy on me. Only to Find a Huge Ulcer! They tell me that because I took a lot of Motrin etc that could be the cause for it. So Since 2001 I have not taken Motrin and meds like it...

Now I had my TAH/LSO on Nov 4 2003 and There is No Left Ovary there and I still have the Same Pains as Before! Talk about Very Frustrating.....So I went to the doc (for my back) and also asked to send me out to a Specialist for a Colonoscopy! arghhhh If it isnt one dang thing it is another! So Now I have that to Look Forward to. I just want to Feel Better. They have now put me on Vioxx. Lets see if that messes me up.....I find it hard to take anything. Especially now since my Hyster now my Tummy has also been bothering me.

I wish the Best of Luck. I hope that you will feel better soon. God Bless
I send you Many Many Hugs!

LOwer Back Pain and Bloating

Hello, I am new. I just signed on tonight. I had my hysterectomy on 8/8/01. I had endometriosis very bad.

Well, I still feel awful! I'm constanly bloated, the pain in my lower back is unbearable. I went to see my obgyn today and she seems to think I might have scar tissue that hasn't healed. I think that's just a guess.

My real concern is my weight. I exercise and try to eat right and I cannot lose weight. Very frustrating!

I would also like to mention that my husband and I never had children and that also makes me sad.

Thank you for listening.
