2nd & 3rd Opinions

Advice please... I'm currently scheduled for surgery 10/26 due to hemoragic cyst reported by dr. to be about 6cm in diameter. Dr. tells me laproscopy not an option due to size and location ( maybe also due to c-section 13+ yrs ago?). Will probably take left ovary, more than likely right also... told me if that is the case then uterus too.

I very much want to get a second & possibly 3rd opinion before surgery but cannot find an OB in my area (major medical center!) that can work me in to the schedule before my surgery.

Any suggestions?

2nd & 3rd Opinions

Dear Topper,

If 2nd & 3rd opinons are important to you (as they should be for major surgery), then perhaps you should postpone your 10/26 date.

I had 3 opinions, and doc #3's idea of surgery was much less invasive than doc #2.

Get smart about your symptoms & your options, and make the best choice for YOU.

I agree with Twyla. If neccessary postpone your surgery date. You definitley NEED to get more opinions from other Doctors.
You don't want to lose anymore parts than you have to. You want to have a doctor who will get it right the first time around and do it as uninvasively as possible.
Prayers & Hugs!

I also had 3 second opins, and the last doc I saw gave me an option (a total lap hyst) that the others had not mentioned. If you can put off your date, it could well be worth your peace of mind.

Speak up!

After my old gyn recommended a hysterectomy for the third time after we'd discussed myomectomy being a viable option, I decided that was a definite clue that it was time to seek another opinion. I asked friends and my primary care doc who the best doc was if I was wanting to avoid a hysterectomy and just called and explained the situation. I got in in 10 days. I was shocked - fully prepared to wait. I just told them I knew I had fibroids and wanted to avoid hysterectomy if at all possible because I'd like to have children someday and the receptionist told me that I didn't want to wait for their first available - that she'd check with the doctor and call me back the next day. They did and my myomectomy is scheduled for Monday. I'm very pleased. I didn't even ask for any special favors or anything - I think the good docs like a challenge and are interested in helping as fast as they can! You might try again! Or, even ask if they could call if they have a cancellation or something.
