Flu Shot??

My oncologist recommended that I have a flu vaccine, which I had earlier this month. I'm wondering if I should have my family vaccinated as well?

Also, at almost 6 months post chemo, how susceptible am I to germs and flu? It's a whole new ballgame!

I'd Ask Everyone Be Vaccinated

They could bring it in to you. I too have had the flu shot. My doctor was emphatic that I have it. If you are six months out of chemo, you may be in good shape immune-system wise, or you mayn ot be. What was your last CBC? I noted that three months after my iniital Taxol/Carbo in 2001 that all my counts were well back into the normal range. However, I noted that before my second recurrence that my immune system count was lower than normal--it had not recovered in the 6 months since I'd last had chemo. With this flu, I wouldn't take any chances.

Flu Shot??

We are all at risk for getting sick chemo or not. I do get the flu shot every year because I work in a very germy place. One year I decided not to get the shot and BANG I did get the flu and was out for a week.

Flu Shot??

ABSOLUTELY - your whole family should get the flu shot. And check with your doc about whether the nasal vaccine is safe for you or your family since it is made with a partially live virus which may shed.

Also - check with your doc about whether you should get the pneumonia vaccine. You only need it once in a lifetime and while it is usually recomended for persons over 65, many of us with active treatment during this time of year should get it as well.

Lots of hand washing is also a good idea.

Flu Shot??

The whole family just consists of me, my husband and my year old, but yes I reccommend the whole family the flu shot. My 2 year old got one too, al of us. My diabetes doctor sait it ws a must. 2 years ago when I went thru radiation, the doctor said not to gest the flu shot because it has a bad reaction togeterh and can cause further infections. In itself it could be dangerous, so it was the only year I did not get the shot, but got the flu very seriouos.Whole family got it. At that time, 2 years ago , my son was still a tiny baby, it was so hard annd scay because he is 29 weeker preemie. If your doctor says ilt is safe for you, by all means get it for everyone.
