Don't be afraid to ask..........

Hello girls, Happy New Year to all from Australia............
Do not be afraid to ask your gyno anything............I'm 5.5 weeks post LAVH and, because my gyno (2 hrs away) will be on hols all January I went for my "6 wks" checkup yesterday, Wednesday. On Monday night/Tuesday morning I had "hit the wall' - PAIN - worse than giving birth to my two wonderful children,32 & 28 yrs ago! I have a quite high pain threshhold so I knew it wasn't just a tummy ache! and boy! did I cry! I thought 2 hrs sitting at the computer had done some damage or I was going to have to live with the pain for the rest of my days (I'm 58). Had a UTI culture done (3rd in 5 weeks) ........showed nothing! (second negative in that time) - did have a UTI from the catheter 1st week home. Local GP thought low/high sugar, post op infection, damage to bladder, etc. - when I told him, GP, I would be seeing GYNO on Wed. he suggested I ask for an ultrasound. GYNO did ultra sound and, in 2 seconds flat, said "you have passed a kidney stone recently by the bruising on the urethra" - NEVER had a kidney stone in my life! I was shocked, but it certainly explained the pain! "Wee works" still a bit tender but that will settle GyNO said. I had healed very well he reckoned and gave me the all clear but "just be careful" which I have been all along. My purpose in letting you know this is NOT to alarm you, but simply to say ask your GYNO - GPs are great, but, what we have had is strictly a GYNO thing and only the GYNO has the expertise in this field! Do not think you are being silly, sooky, or alarmist - ask, and it will put your mind at ease and something can be done to solve the problem. Best wishes to all girls - it does get better - I'm living proof! and if I can do it, so can you!

Don't be afraid to ask..........

Kerry,

Happy New Year to you too! Thanks for the great advice! I agree that a lot of us hesistate to call our docs too often out of fear that we're "bothering" them. (I worry about this although my Gyn has been nothing but great the past two years!)

I'm glad you're recovering from the kidney stone. Those are so incredibly painful.

Take care.
