Vulvar/Vaginal Cancer

Hi, Girls! Here are a couple of links to threads that discuss vulvar cancer:

I hope they are helpful to you!

Also, I did want to point out that a PAP smear can detect abnormal cells on the vaginal wall--if the scrapings are taken from the vaginal wall. The problem is that most docs don't ever do scrapings of the vaginal wall because vaginal cancer is so rare. So, while it's true that a PAP gives readings of cervical cells, it CAN and does give vaginal cell readings if the doctor scrapes the vaginal wall. I have a ThinPrep done every 6 months of both my vaginal cuff and my vaginal wall--just to be on the safe side.

's to all!

Vulvar/Vaginal Cancer

Hi Jane,
At thr time of my surgery the cancer was staged at 2, but 3 months later when the PET scan showed it had spread into the upper abdomen it probably greatly changed the stage, bit I didn't ask. They only told me it, that at best it could be controlled, not cured, and that I was a poor
candidate for radiation. I had chemo from Nov 2002 - March of last year. Scans have shown no cancer since January of last year.I have no anemia, high energy, and I am up to almost 100 lbs. I will be having another scan in a few weeks. I
wasvery weak, anemic and my weight dropped to 85 when the cancer was spreading, but now , except for scar tissue, problems from the surgeries I feel great.

Vulvar/Vaginal Cancer

Jeanine, thanks for those informative threads. Ladies, thanks for sharing your concerns with me. You've all helped me make informed decisions regarding my symptoms. I've got some internet research to do yet!

I read a thread in which a princess had alternating yeast and bacterial infections. That was certainly the battle for me for two years pre-op. We'd treat one and I'd immediately have the other. All the while I continued to have abnormal paps, WITHOUT CONCERN (because they thought it was INFECTION related). It wasn't until January 2003 that the gyn I was seeing pursued colposcopy and diagnosed the moderate dysplasia of the cervix. I wasn't clinically diagnosed with HPV until June of 2003, and not even informed about that until December 2003. How do you like that?

After I recovered from the cryotherapy in February, I remember using a mirror to look down there, and nothing looked the same as it use to. One side of my labia is practically non-existent, the other is still swollen. The gyn didn't freeze any areas in my vagina or my vulva. In all the appts I've had since I started this mess, no dr was concerned about the bumps or the itching or the distortion, or the milky discharge. Just pills and cream, pills and cream, pills and cream. Bleeech.
