I really don't like most Hollywood movies, which I've stated before.
The STINKERS I've had the unfortunate experience of seeing, were at the behest of friends who forced me to see;

"Private Parts--Howard Stern"--moronic.
"Curly Sue"--cloyingly stupid.
"The Fifth Element"--i had to make my DH's step-son turn it off, it was so idiotic.
"Zorro" Antonio Banderas--predictable, boring, stupid.
"The Perfect Storm" --predictable, boring, wet.

I didn't see any popular culture at all between 1973 and 1988--because I was in a Fundamentalist baptist cult that didn't allow television or movies. So if it happened between those years, it's lost on me.

Whoops, I liked Curly Sue, but I'm a SOD -- sentimental old D-word! I'm like Robert DiNiro in that movie with Billy Crystal - I cry at ATT commericials!

Dagon was a horrible movie. Going back a few years, I also hated the movie The Doors.

I think I agree with just about every hated movie here except for "Freaky Friday." I'm really surprised that no one mentioned "In the Cut" with Meg Ryan. Thank goodness I waited until it came out on video. I'm not a prude or anything when it comes to sex scenes, but it seems that's the only thing the movie was about!! She was absolutely disgusting in that movie. She needs to stick to comedy!

A Bridge Too Far. I went with my then-BF who was the film critic for the college newspaper, so we couldn't walk out. It was such a snore-fest, and I couldn't follow it.

Ben Kingsley saved Gandhi, but there was another movie that wandered all over the place and could have used a better director.

Groundhog Day is as perfect explanation of Buddhism I've ever seen. I've probably watched it a dozen times, and see more out of it each time.

But I'm not real fond of the whole Lord of the Rings series. It's just a little too twee for me.

hotbww --

I really loved Groundhog Day also, and never thought of it as an explanation of Buddhism -- thanks for opening my mind!

It seems to be a movie people either loved or hated.

I loved Groundhog Day too, and find it really interesting that it is an explanation of Buddhism. I'm reading a book by the Dalai Lama right now, and I love so much of what he has to say...

Some movies I hated were "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" with Steve Martin. I remember I had justed started dating DH, and found it kind of rude. Maybe it wouldn't bother me now.
I also didn't like "Escape from New York" with Kurt Russell( years ago). Very dark. I was also dragged to "Apocolypse Now" and " The Exorcist". Others I hated were the 70's disaster flicks like "Towering Inferno", "Poseiden Adventure" etc. Other people convinced me to see these movies, and now I'm able to be more discriminating in what I'd like to see.
