PCOS Kept Ovaries Need Help

I was diagnosed w/ PCOS in 1999. I had taken metformin up until Feb of 2003 when my GYN took me off all meds (was doing fertility treatments) I hyperstimulated and my left ovary swelled to the size of a football and developed fluid in my lungs and an irregular heartbeat.

I had a lap done in 6/02 for endo, remove cysts & ovarain drilling. At that point I had been having bad pain on my right side which my GYN told me was either cysts popping or the endo. About 3 months latter the pain developed on my leftside. I have been having pain ever since.

Is there anything that I can do for this pain. I tried to mention it to my doctor last week and he told me just give it time it is normal to have pain after surgery I am still healing. This pain can be very bad at times. I could not sleep at all last night because of the pain and the only thing I can think of it is my ovary. I am at my witts end.

Any suggestions grealty appreciated... I am feeling some what better this morning but since my sugery I have had about 4 to 5 spells of this pain lasting any where from a few days to almost 2 weeks.

PCOS Kept Ovaries Need Help

I just wanted to bump this up to see if anyone has any suggestions. DH is starting to get fustranted with me telling me to give my body time to heal, but I don't know how to heal my ovaries. I am still having some bladder issues which I think may be adheasions, I get a pulling pain towards the end of urination and I also get the same pain when I streach or bend a certian way, but my doctors are telling me to give it a year with both pains. I know the left sided pain is not dirrectly related to my LAVH because I had it prior to my sugery.

PCOS Kept Ovaries Need Help

wow do I ever know how you feel....I had PCOS and didnt keep my ovaries, tried everything the doctor think of to control the symptoms, metformin, drilling, cystoscopy, and ovulation hormones. finally I decided enough is enough and had them taken out. The doc said I was to young at 27 but it was interfering with the family life... If you are in pain try this, wet some wash clothes put in microwave for a minute (careful they will be VERY hot) and put in a ziplock bag. place on you painful side with a towel around the warmth. then take some ibuprofen and rest for about 20 minutes. This helped me and I hope it can help you too. I also found the use of meditation and yaga helpful.

PCOS Kept Ovaries Need Help

Patricia,

Thank you so much for responding.... I thought I was loosing it. I was begining to think I was the only one that had that type of ovarian pain. I also had taken metformin and had the ovarian drilling done. Thank god the pain went a way this morning, but I know it will be back. I asked my GYN to take my ovaries at least my left one because that's the one that has been giving me the most problems in the last year or so, but he wouldn't. Say I was to young (25) I sure wish I would of pushed harder. The only time I had any kind of releif was when I was on lupron, but I did not have many side effects from it, but I don't like the risks from that drug. My GYN's nurse left me a message for me to call her tomorrow. I am going to ask if they can give me something to take when it gets bad, I can't take Ibuprofen because of my stomach. Also can't take vioxx or betra anymore which did not help much unless I took them every day and still had some pain with them. I will defently try the wash cloths next time it acts up. Hopefully my GYN's nurse will not blow me off when I ask for help. She has a bad habbit of doing so.

Just out of couriosity did your GYN tell you what causes the pain. Is it cysts? I am just trying to understand. They kept telling me it was endo, no way because they removed the endo and the pain was back 3-4 weeks post op from the LAVH.

PCOS Kept Ovaries Need Help

My gyn told me it was from the ovaries pushing on the siides of my uterus and the tubes. Before the hyst he recommended a laproscopic to see just what the problem was and there was no endo no adhesions no nothing except the cysts and one of them ruptured while he was in there. If the pain insists and gets worse Dont take it any more you dont have to live with it. He wanted me to wait till I was 40 but I didnt want to live with the pain and being doubled over and sobbing every couple weeks. the pain was bad enough that I was on narcotics for a while..now after the hyst with both ovaries gone I have no pain of any kind. There is hope, I found a web site where you can find out other helpful hints and things about PCOS, its pcosupport, and pcostrategies.org or go under yur search engine and type in polcystic ovaries. hope you find some relief...but be aggressive if it gets too bad. PCOS Kept Ovaries Need Help

Patrica,

I spoke with my GYN nurse today and her advice was to take Ibrpofine. I advised her that I have tried Ibprofine in the past and it did not help and that I am not to take Ibprofine anymore because of my stumach. She suggested I have the doctor put me on BC pills. I had to remind her that the doctor took me off of them in 2000 because I was getting migranes and it was detirmend at that time that I could not go back on them because of my history of getting migranes (the doctor tried about 6 types) and told me that some people who just can't take them and that I was one of them. The nurses advice was that I should just take advil or tyenol. I asked for something stronger and she said that there is nothing that they could give me that I would just need to deal with the pain. I have been taking my vicodine from surgery when it gets really bad but I only have 3 left! I don't think 3 is going to last me the next 15 to 25 yrs! I tried to explain to her how offen I deal with this and how intence this pain is and that the last 7 yrs have been living H**l dealing with it.

I am going to check out the sites tonight to see if there is some info on there that may help. I'm not done fighting this one yet.

Good for you! Dont give up. there are things that can be done, does the doc have anything to say or is it just his nurse? if so personally I would have a second opinion. I know there is only so much tylenol you can take before it takes a tole on the liver...Hopefully there is a website that you find that has some ways with dealing with it. I really hope you well and remember where theres a will there is a way.
