Blood Clot

Anyone ever hear of having a blood clot in the hand where the IV was? I have a painful area that doesnt get better or worse with time. It does stiffen up and ache at night sometimes though. Its right on the vain. I did tell my doctor about it and he pressed on it a little. He said it was a blood clot and to apply warm compresses to it. I have done that with no changes. I wonder if its something that I should be concerned with. I wonder if he took me seriously because it is barely detectable to the touch, but it does hurt! Most of all, i am concerned about it possibly not going away or causing other complications.

Thanks for any wisdom or experience here in advance.

Terry

Blood Clot

I had the same thing in my forearm where they put the needle. It's a big needle! It was very sore and swollen, but went away after a few weeks. I remember thinking it was taking a long time! It's common, but it does get better.

Blood Clot

I had a vein blow when they tryed to insert the IV which left a huge lump. The vein that ended up with the IV in it left a small one. Time is all you can really do besides the warm compresses. I noticed you're only a couple days behind me on the surgery. Mine finally went away a few days ago on it's own. I really didn't use warm compresses so I wonder if they even cut down the healing time. HTH

I have had this happen twice. Once they left the neddle in while drawing blood and the auto blood pressure cuff went off. It tore up my veins. The second is this time. I was actually bragging about what a good job they did because the IV left no bruises. New Years Eve I popped the back of my hand on a door facing. The place where the IV was just welped up. Now the vein is hard as a rock and hurts! The wierd thing is that the vein is hardening way up my arm. It has made it halfway to my elbow.

I'm curious why you had all of those adhesions? Do you know? Were you a good princess and just had hard luck? Curious. ..

Tammy,I appreciate the info on the IV problems. Hopefully this clot will just go away on its own. I really wasnt prepared for all of these nagging problems, but I suppose "so far" I have fared pretty well compared to some. Time will tell.

Happy healing,

Terry
