I'm Back!

Hey Everybody!!!

It was 11am yesterday when they knocked me out..I woke up in recovery around 2:30..guess what..They sent me home at 11 today..a whole 24 hours in hospital! (Dr. said it was a 'good sized hole' but location was good for fix)
They were able to do the repair vaginally..no 'packing', no supra pubic cath and sadly, no morphine pump!!..I am wearing a foley though w/leg bag which fills up way too fast & I am a human drugstore.
I have had NO pain at all (other than people sticking me w/needles..iv, blood thinner. Feel really good considering what my body's been through in the last 24 hours. I'm having some spotting which they said is fine as long as I'm not passing clots 'larger than a dime' and not 'filling pads' (Don't know how they'd figure I could pass clots when I'm on a blood thinner..oh well) ..Yes, still in these da** pad things til the blood stops!!
Anyway, I better go dump my leg bag before it overfloweth..but I'll write later with more juicy and exciting tales of the great Fistula Fiasco!
Thanks for all your prayers and support..I knew you were all right there with me in the OR all the time and I sure appreciate it!!
OK shutting up for now..

I'm Back!

Welcome home Melinda! I am glad to hear that everything went okay and the doc was able to make the repairs less invasively. I hope you have a speedy and uneventful recovery.

I think your the first story I have read thats been a good one since I started reading Hyster Sisters (about fistulas anyways).

I just sent Amanda a reply saying I couldn't wait to hear how it went for you. I am just amazed for you!

I just recieved a call tonight, the 2nd opinion doctor couldn't get me in for surgery for another month. Sooner then the other doctor thou but still going nuts over wearing diapers.

Please don't over do it missy, wear that crown as much as possible.

God Bless you and keep you warm, Deb

PS. I was thinking of changing my name to" Diaper Deb"......LOL

I'm Back!

Hi Melinda,

What a wonderful result, being home so soon and having a vaginal repair. How long will the catheter be in for? Take it easy now and rest lots!
Best wishes, Blossom

I'm Back!

Hi again sisters!!

i'm still in shock & just praying that this is fixed..seems almost like it was too simple.

The foley is something to get used to..I've already 'peed' on my slipper. Ewww! I'm using the leg bag for the daytime & used the big bag last night. Was able to sleep reasonably well..better than in the hospital anyway!
Feeling really good, though I have yet to take a 'bm'..that's gonna be a little strange..am on stool softners so we'll see what 'happens' today. (Have been passing a little gas..oops..so that's a step in the right direction anyway).
So I got a call from the uro's office & they want to do a voiding cystogram & cystoscopy on Jan 23rd..I don't know, but I'm praying & hoping that means I get to get this foley out then..15 days from now? Is that really..possible? I can't even fathom that at this point!!

The doc said when they 'opened me up vaginally' (eww gross, sorry for the visual there)..but she said they could 'clearly see the hole through the vaginal cuff' so I'm figuring that means it was pretty straightforward, as far as holes go. Hmm.

Deb, I know how you feel about having to wait another month. I was originally supposed to get my repair surgery Dec 4th but due to a 'miscommunication', had to be rescheduled to Jan 6th. Hang in there..see I am an example of drier days to come..I was waiting in diapers/pads for 4 months. The waiting was the worst!!!

Thanks again for all your good thoughts and prayers and wishes. We will soon ALL BE DRY..we WILL..and we will have that virtual DIAPER BURNING PARTY TOGETHER!!!!

Oh and..to me, this is nothing compared to the hyst.. about 1/10th of what the hyst was for me.

Melinda,

Welcome home! That was fast! Just don't strain when you do the big BM!!!

See, we have a "good" fistula story. I was pretty sure mine was a worst case scenero!

's to all!
