Have a decision to make

A year a ago I had an ablation and a D/C for heavy bleeding.
well the ablation is not working and I'm not only bleeding heavy but my periods are prolonged and I'm bleeding in between.
I have excess estrogen in my system.
My Doc wants me to try prometrium and I started it today to see if it helps. I see her in a month.
I also have fibriod.
so my decsions are another ablation, some kind of surgery to block the flow of blood to the uterus or the hysterectomy.
Removing uterus,ovaries and cervix.
I'm soon to be 42.
I would appreciate any feedback if anyone has been this route.
I also am overweight so losing weight would help with the excess estrogen. easier said than done..lol

Thanks so much,
Rainee in Mississippi

Have a decision to make

Gosh it is such a hard decision. I am sorry you are having so many problems. I hope the prometrium works. I also had an ablation. Dr told me that I had a 75% chance I wouldn't have anymore periods and a 90% chance it would be lighter, that didn't happen for me. I seem to defy odds

I hope you and your Dr come up with a good decision that works for you.

Can't much help with some of your questions, I am brand new to this...
however I can say that I lost 13 lbs on South Beach and it was easy!! I hit 140 and decided that was it. My guess is that I will meet my goal of 125 (5' 4") in about another two weeks. (Although with all this worring about hyst/fibroids.... it could be a lot sooner :-))

Hi Rainee,

It's hard to know what treatment to choose, isn't it?

The procedure to stop blood flow to the uterus is probably a UAE - uterine artery embolization. This is to stop the blood supply to the fibriod - not the entire uterus. This procedure works very well for some ladies, but not all.

There's also the possibility that part of your problem is adenomyosis. This is sort of like endometriosis, but it grows INSIDE the uterus and can cause the bleeding, clotting and pain. Adeno is very hard to diagnose and many gals don't know for certain that they have it until after their hysts when the pathology report confirms it. And the only "cure" for adeno is a hyst. Sometimes an MRI will diagnose adeno, but many docs don't order an MRI since it is a pretty expensive test.

I'm providing a link to a list of resources that we have compiled. This list appears at the top of this forum. Scroll down to find information on UAE, etc.

Keep us posted on how you are doing and what you decide about treatment. We'll be here to provide support, whatever you decide.
