having another surgery. I'm very scared!

I am facing my 5th surgery this time for adhesions, scar tissue, and to excise more endometriosis. I'm very scared, as it's only been 4 months since my hysterectomy, and all together I've had 4 abdominal surgeries all last summer.

I'm finding myself in tears over the thought of going under, waking up, (I usually wake up shaking uncontrollably, and vomiting) and the recovery.

It's a laparoscopy, and i know exactly what my dr will be doing. She's done 4 surgeries on me, and I know I'm in good hands, as she's a fantastic surgeon, and a great doctor. But I can't help but feel scared and nervous.

Too bad I can't get a shot of valium a little ealry! Like about a week and a half early!

having another surgery. I'm very scared!

Laura:

Well, I am a little older than you so I don't know exactly where you are coming from.

I'll be 37 the day after this next surgery. I had my first 2 laps at 25 and 26 and another one at 30. Had the hyst at 35 and will be going in for my 4th lap on the 19th for same thing as you ... remove scar tissue and endo. Might lose one or both ovaries as well ... just depends.

I also have a great doctor whom I completely trust and I am also panicking on and off. Today I seem to be fine. Yesterday I was a wreck ... nauseous, etc.

What is your surgery date?

having another surgery. I'm very scared!

Hey there, I too am having lap surgery on the 22nd of this month for the same thing, not sure if it is edno and or adheasions scar tissue. I am scared as well it is so natural to feel that way, and it is even worse when you know what to expect. Like you i get sick from the anisthesia and the thought of going in that cold OR again, man I wish there was another way. I had a lap last janurary at the same time and a tah/bso on march 6th. Why have you had so many surgeries??Did they help any? and for how long?? My dr. in Phila asked me to be in a study for a new procedure that they put a new kind of fluid in the area where they lazor/cut and keep it in and then go in in 4-6weeks and see if the aheasions/endo is keep abate. This is a blind study however and I will not know if they will be putting that fluid in or just saline as usual and it will be recorded and I have to keep records so forth of my progess. this procedure is done in Europe and 400 women in the United States will be in this study and my dr. feels that I am a candiate, either way I have to go in again and have another lap done within 4-6 weeks of each surgery!!! my husband is against the second surgery because he knows what i have been through this year and how I feel after surgery. I would like to get better, I cannot sit or stand too long and I live each day with much discomfort and burning, pulling and soreness all the time. Hang in there we have to. Juniper Breeze

having another surgery. I'm very scared!

I too am having another surgery on January 15th...my fourth within a year. This time it's laproscopic and the doctor plans on taking down any adhesions, possibly taking the appendix and fixing a hernia if one exists! I can relate to be scared. I am very aprehensive about this surgery....My Ob/Gyn did the three previous surgeries, but has referred me to the doctor who will be performing this one. I'm confident in the doctor, I'm just hoping that this surgery will provide some relief from the pain for a longer period of time. My last surgery was in July and by September the pain was back. Good luck with your surgery. I hope all goes well.

Oh, meant also to suggest for those of you who get cold easily ...like me... to ask for a warmed blanket if they don't offer it to you.

When I was in the holding area for the OR waiting for the hyst, I said is it cold in here or is it just me? The nurse offered me a heated blanket which she brought promptly. She came back in a bit and asked me if I wanted another one ... why, thanks, yes I would!

And THAT's a big reason why I am returning to that hospital for this surgery. Compassionate care.

Best wishes to you all. I do check my PM, so feel free to contact me if you want to chat.

having another surgery. I'm very scared!

Laura, Michelle, Juniper breeze, Monica and not sitting,

I too will be having another surgery within a month. This will be my 3rd one in 4 months.

I am scared as heck too! I am going back in to have a hole repaired in my bladder which developed after my hysterectomy from a stitch.
I stayed in the hospital for 7 days after hysterectomy because I got so darn sick. Throwing up with staples in the belly wasn't pleasant at all. Everything about surgeries make me sick.

Sometimes I start thinking about what I will be going throw in another month and I start shaking. Yea, I think on Monday I will be asking the doc for some nerve pills to get me throu this last few weeks. My imagination runs away with me.

I will hold your hand if you hold mine, hang in there, DEB

My THoughts are with all of you

I am having a tah/bso on 1.21.04 ans she wanted to do another lap instead of the surgery for adhesions, cyst and maybe endo. I have had two some 16 years ago and I just didn't think another lap was the right thing to do. I feel for all of you and all the surgeries that you are going through, I will pray real hard that after you surgeries you are done for life, never needing another one. ALoha Ellie
