I did not get mellow

Dear Hystersisters,

Well, I managed chemo # 7 yesterday. The good news is that I did not get too, too mellow on the anti-nausea med. - Decadron (benadryl). I am so pleased about that. When I asked my oncology nurse the reason why, and if the dosage had changed, she said that maybe my body had adjusted to it, and that the dosage had not changed.

And I found a wood necklace that I had been given over 20 years ago, when I was working in England, - it is made out of the yew tree - which Taxol is? So, I wore it. Was told that it looked ethnic!!, but mentioned that it was from a British tree.

However, I believe that I did get 25% less of both Taxol and Carbo. (However, the whole chemo took just under 6 hours anyway). This is so that my blood counts will not be so impacted, so that the remaining 2 chemos can be done on the schedule. And, I was pleased that my blood counts had returned to normal after my chemo previous to this - Oct., as it was my understanding that sometimes chemo can permanently affect the counts.

I will be getting blood tests sometime next week to check the levels; if down, then some shots to increase; then more blood tests before chemo # 8. So, I am going to review when the blood counts would be at the nadir after a chemo, and make sure that the first blood test will be done on a day when the levels have risen.

I just want 3 chemos - these - to be done on the 3 week cycle, as I have never been able to do that with the prior 6. Then, we shall see.

Now, off to take 2 more Senokat!

I did not get mellow

Isn't that an amazing coincidence with the necklace?

Maybe it should be your talisman/good luck charm.

I hate to wish chemo on you, but I do hope your counts hold and that you can fiish your treatment on schedule!

On to Victory!

I'm glad you found that necklace--now if there ever was a sign, that's it. I never got the taxol/carbo or carbo for that matter on time--always four weeks because something (usually platelets, sometimes white cells) didn't want to bounce back. But hopefully you can get them done. I like that sort of mellow feeling, but then I have to psych up to drive home--what I think they should do at chemo is serve say wine and cheese...Now I'd be so mellow I'd fall out of the chair! But keep going--now onto #8 and then--free!

I did not get mellow

Thanks, Margaret. I am bound and determined to do my next chemo in 3 weeks.

And the mellow feeling - not for me from those meds.; only like that feeling from a glass of wine! That will do. Maybe I did not experience too much of a mellow feeling yesterday, as I ate a sandwich before - I arrived a bit early. I had not eaten before a chemo, as I am one of those people who do not eat when upset, and I know no matter how I get on with just doing the program, deep down - deep, deep down - ...well.

I figure that I have had OVCA for at least since 2001. My metastasis was in Sept. 2002, so have been talking to my gyn/onc re: this. So, it's now 2004; so I am grateful for this.
