Ventral/Incisional Hernia?

God I am so glad if I can save '1" sister from the misery I have
had to endure.. After my ventral hernia the idiot put this barbaric
machine thay called a 'wound vac' on me, did they you???
They said {lied} that the hole would heal better, and faster.
WRONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG It left a hole 3x3 in the middle
of my stomach, in healing it turned to look like a 'butt' on my
stomach, ugley!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a full tummy tuck to get it off.
If they mention wound vac, say no no no!!! I can email you
ugly pictures to see the aftermath of this barbaric machine, its
constantly sucking in the hole, making the pain god awful!!!
I would rather go thru natual childbirth then that machine
sucking the life out of me 24/7 I aged 20 years with that
machine on!!!!

Ventral/Incisional Hernia?

Wow - sounds AWFUL!!!!! I am praying that this surgeon is good - he definitely is a specialist with laparoscopic surgery, and I'm going to talk to him about what he'll do with hernia repair (use mesh?, etc.), if it turns out to be a hernia. My worst fear is that he'll go in there and won't see anything wrong. But I really can't imagine that that will be the case. But I have to KNOW. ;o)

Thanks again, Linda. I really hope that you find some answers and get some relief soon, too. This is all so depressing - like so many women on these boards, I thought the hysterectomy would cure my problems with pain, and I ended up worse off, with pain all the time. I wish I could see a therapist, just to vent to someone other than my husband and sisters and friend, but we just can't afford the co-pays, because of the financial impact on us of my not working much at all.

Ventral/Incisional Hernia?

I have depleted all of my savings behind co-pays, I know
where you are on this one!! The hyst has brought me
to my knees, begging for mercy!! But if I have learned
anything from my "5" surgurys sence the hyst, DO NOT
take a DR'S words as LAW!! I believe half of them don't
have a clue whats going on... And if somewhere there
was a screw-up on there part, they are not going to
enlighten you. At that point they are trying to unload
you on some other Drs door step. But from my point of
view if you see swelling go get a cat-scan. Most Dr'S do
not like doing cat-scans but thats why we carry insurance,
to protect us, not them!!!

I also wanted to tell you I also had the mesh on
the hernia, they told us it would last a lifetime!!
This is Bull!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7 months later mine was
unwrapped, and had to be re-done!!!
It was just floating around in my stomach, trying
to attach to something. Scarey thought huh????

Ventral/Incisional Hernia?

Ladies, I have heard that some hernia's are not obvious. I can't see or feel any bulges. But I have the same symptoms as Judy. Yesterday, I saw a psychiatrist who prescribed Klonopin in place of Xanax for the muscle tension and pulling sensation on left side. I am still on the Neurontin at 800 mg 3-4 times a day. It seems to be working for me today. I want to get to the bottom of this and not just treat the symptoms forever, but I have no clue what is going on. If you have a bulge I guess it is pretty obvious but if do not how are you supposed to know? I guess time will tell.

Ventral/Incisional Hernia?

Hi Kelou, you are right sometimes your whole
stomach swells like you are gaining weight.
I think that is what threw me off, I had no
buldges I just started to get fat in the belly.
I was at my primary Drs every week, and he
even missed it. He was thinking I was having
the after effects of a hyst, not hernias. Now
after all this I know the only way to know is
a cat-scan.
